Capitol Scientific was founded over 50 years ago, in 1963. A lot has changed in the laboratory industry over the past 50 years, but one thing remains true – Capitol Scientific is dedicated to being the premiere supplier of scientific and technology products. At the center of our commitment is one principal – our customers, no matter what size, are our greatest asset. We believe in building relationships, not just acquiring orders. And we understand this means delivering a consistent and high-level of service, quality products and selection, and an outstanding customer experience. Capitol Scientific is a comprehensive supplier to the pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, semiconductor, aerospace, environmental, manufacturing and clinical industries. We also closely partner with universities, research institutes and a host of government entities.
In 1963, Lee Williams and Mack Johnson founded Capitol Scientific as Chem Products, Inc., a manufacturer of n-Methyl-Piperazine, a product used in the manufacturing of the original anti-histamines in the pharmaceutical market. Over the next 25 plus years the company rapidly evolved by first being awarded a reagent chemical distributorship with J.T. Baker, Inc. and thereafter acquiring prominent laboratory product lines including Eppendorf®, Corning®, Nalgene®, Whatman®, Wheaton Science, Barnstead, Thermolyne and more. In 1972, we officially changed our name to Capitol Scientific to better represent our business and products and also joined the Allied Laboratory Dealer Network (ALADN, Inc.), a co-operative network of independent laboratory supply dealers across the United States.
In the 1990's, Capitol Scientific experienced aggressive growth via a three-fold strategy: (a) strategic sales and executive hires; (b) market expansion including the semiconductor and biotech industries; and (c) acquisition of several hundred laboratory equipment and reagent chemical distributorships. During this time, Felix Ware joined the company and played an important role in the company's growth, strategy and expansion. In 2000, Mr. Ware purchased the company from Mr. Williams. In the role of CEO, Mr. Ware has maintained a culture of innovation and growth, while still delivering the highest quality service and products to our customers. Family-owned since its inception, Capitol Scientific remains a growing and successful, privately-held entity.
