Cape Fear Construction Co., Inc. was incorporated in 1957, serving the greater Fayetteville, NC & Lumberton, NC regions. It was owned from its inception by J. R. Johnson and Hugh G. Geddes until the death of Mr. Geddes in 1967. Mr. Johnson continued to operate as principal owner until January 1, 1972.

On January 1, 1972, Thomas E. Avent assumed ownership of Cape Fear Construction Co., Inc. and immediately moved the company into the commercial and industrial contractor field, performing design/build construction projects. In 1984, Mr. Avent passed away and Douglas B. Mills and Nick Carter assumed ownership of the company. Under the present ownership, Cape Fear Construction Co., Inc. has completed well over six million square feet of design/build projects that include offices, manufacturing facilities, commercial buildings and related warehouse structures. Pre-cast concrete, tilt-up concrete, masonry work, and pre-engineered metal buildings are often involved in our work.

Cape Fear Construction Co., Inc. is a leader in the erection of tilt-up concrete wall construction. We became a member of the Con/Steel Network in 1979 and became a charter member of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association in 1986. The skill and techniques used in concrete tilt-up blended with modern systems/engineered components have improved construction speed, trimmed costs and opened up innovated architectural design possibilities. Cape Fear Construction Co., Inc. is a dealer for VP Buildings, and has sold over $5,000,000.00 in steel for this company.

Cape Fear Construction Co., Inc. has completed commercial construction projects in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Two of these projects were featured in the Seaboard Coastline publication of buildings of the South. A pair of our other projects was selected as the Building-Of-The-Year candidates for Con/Steel Tilt-up Systems. One project, Drexel Furniture, not only was selected for the Con/Steel Building of the year award, but also received the Tilt-up Achievement Awarded by Tilt-up Concrete Association and was placed in the national magazine "Concrete Construction.” In fact, two of our pre-engineered metal buildings have been placed in the National Hall of Fame!
