Burns Refuse Service is a family-owned business since 1955!
Burns Refuse Service was purchased from Walt Dunugan for $4,100 and established in 1955. That included all one hundred customers, the dump truck, and a paver wagon. Richard and Carol Burns paid $100 every month to Walt, until the $4,100 was paid in full. For a long while Richard ran the route by himself and Carol ran the paper work end.
When Richard and Carol's sons (Jeff and Kevin) were in high school, they helped their dad out; working the garbage route throughout their high school days. Jeff started working full time for his dad's company in 1979 after he returned home from the Air Force. Kevin started working full time for his dad's company in 1993, after working construction for many years.
In 2000, Stephenie and Stacy, started running the office. A few short years after, Jeff and Stephenie's twin boys Zack and Nick started helping their dad and their Uncle Kevin on the garbage route; as their father and uncle did in high school.
As for Kevin and Stacy's son Garrett, he started working full time for the company after he graduated from high school in 2010.
