A leader in biofilters since 1986, we have a powerful single-stage solution with unmatched reliability.
We are proud to offer a product that is environmentally responsible.
We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for the communities we serve.
We are committed to achieving higher levels of performance.
We vow to clearly communicate our knowledge, expertise and experience to our clients enabling them to make well-informed decisions.
Company founder, Hinrich Bohn, Ph.D., is a soil chemist/physicist, who has studied soil as a natural biofilter medium for 30 years. A professor of soil chemistry at the University of Arizona, he is a nationally recognized expert on biofiltration. His research in biofiltration, the ability of soils and organics to eliminate foul gases, is extensive. He has published over 60 papers and his textbook on soil chemistry/physics is used worldwide.
Bohn Biofilter supplies a complete system: all equipment from fan to exhaust, and all services for successful construction, operation and performance verification.
The most important component of a biofilter is its media. For our filter media, we analyze regional materials and engineer a blend of soil products with an enhanced microbial population. The physical and chemical properties of our soil media make it the most efficient biofilter material available.
Soil is an excellent pH buffer. Low pH in biofilters/bioscrubbers causes corrosion and eliminates many microbial species.
Wet or dry soils readily absorb water (hydrophilic), whereas compost/wood chip media repel water when dry (hydrophobic). If moisture systems fail, so does the biofilter. A soil system simply needs to be rewetted.
The physical properties of our soil media are stable for decades. This means stable airflow; consistent back-pressure and even air distribution.
Owners and operators enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a solution that practically works by itself. No filter change-outs. No chemical or nutrient additions. No pumps. The fan and the media moisture with be the only necessary maintenance. And, even better, no neighbors complaining.
The most important component of a biofilter is the filter medium; commonly called media. We use soil media, a blend of sands, soils and topsoils. The physical and chemical properties of this soil media make our biofilter the most efficient available. These physical and chemical properties make a sturdy, stable substrate for biological activity. This means stable airflow; consistent back-pressure and even air distribution.
The chemical properties of soil make it an excellent pH buffer. Low pH in biofilters/bioscrubbers causes corrosion and eliminates many microbial species; species that degrade foul air gases.
Our soil media readily absorbs water (hydrophilic), whereas compost-wood chip media repel water when dry (hydrophobic). If the irrigation fails, soil media simply needs to be rewetted; other media would need replacement.
We analyze materials native to our locale and engineer a blend of soil products with an enhanced microbial population. Each mixture is adjusted for mineral content, permeability, particle size and pH factors.
