We were initially inspired by Poplar Manor Enterprises' food scrap collection program at Virginia Tech, and then other composting programs in Virginia and around the nation. Black Bear quickly joined the US Composting Council, retained the services ofCoker Composting & Consulting and immersed ourselves in the world of composting.In the summer of 2011, we found our home on a beautiful 47 acre farm in Crimora, located in Augusta County in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. Screened to a 1/2 inch, this compost made from local food scraps, leaves and greenwaste makes an outstanding soil amendment that improves soil health — naturally.

Black Bear Composting's commercial collection program is a great way for organizations to reduce waste, save resources, and lower expenses in the process. We work with grocery stores, restaurants, schools, and other businesses that generate food scraps and other organic wastes. Directions: 152 McGuslin Lane (aka Route 628) is an approximated address since we don't have a have a building to be assigned an official address. However, it should get you close. Take Route 340 to McGuslin Lane (Route 628) and follow it over the railroad tracks and down to the marked gate in the bend in the road (see map below).
