Unit Birwelco brings together two of the UK’s longest established engineering businesses: Birwelco, or The Birmingham Welding Company, formed in 1902 and Unit Superheaters, formed in 1909 to produce detachable superheaters for Lancashire type boilers.

In 2004 Unit Superheaters was acquired by Unit Engineers and Constructors, bringing together fabrication, mechanical construction and maintenance expertise with specialist engineering services. Then in 2010 the Unit Group acquired Birwelco, adding engineering design, global project management and procurement and patented flare systems, to create one of the UK’s only true EPCM contractors.

Eying expansion in key markets, in 2014 Unit Birwelco established offices in Houston in the USA and Al-Khobar in Saudi Arabia.
