Bionerga nv is responsible for the waste processing from the province of Limburg and the city of Diest. Bionerga nv manages one incineration plant (Houthalen) and five composting plants (in Bilzen, Houthalen, Maasmechelen, Overpelt and Sint-Truiden). The shareholders of Bionerga nv are Limburg.net and Nuhma Cvba.

Every year, in addition to more than 120,000 tons of household residual waste & bulky waste, more than 150,000 tons of organic waste is collected from Limburg residents. This waste must be processed.

The residual waste is converted into heat and electricity in the environmentally friendly and high-tech installation of Bionerga nv in Houthalen. This processing is of course preferable to dumping. This processing is done in all openness because opening our doors to visitors is perfectly in line with our philosophy. Visitors then realize that their waste problem does not end at their front door when the garbage bag is placed outside. All links in the waste chain must be perfectly attuned to each other in order to prevent an even greater burden on the environment.

The organic waste is processed in our 5 composting plants into high-quality compost. The composting activities are supervised by VLACO, which means that our compost can rightfully bear the VLACO certificate.
