BEZERRA FAMILY

Our mentor was born in 1934 in a parish in Minho, a small poor village but with a great capacity for work and entrepreneurship. In this village, Nogueira, several companies linked to construction were born and grew and became important engines of the country's economy until the end of the 20th century and in the first two decades of the following. Ours, the one that matters to us now, started as a boy, aged 14, learning the noble art of stonemasonry: carving stone with just the help of hand tools. These were very difficult times, in a very poor village trying to lift its head in a very difficult post-war period. He worked for an uncle and even today he can identify the guards of a bridge in that village, which he sculpted with his young hands. For a year or two this was his art, as an apprentice he also sculpted many olive oil basins.

At the age of 17, he began working in the company of some uncles who were already carrying out larger projects. He leaves his parents' house for the first time to go to work. The first time he flew away was to Vale das Éguas in the municipality of Sabugal, from where he would only return to his father's house once or twice a year. This small company worked with one of the largest at the time and that first major project was a dam. He began learning topography, which would become one of his passions. He worked until the age of 21 on several dams from Alto Seira to Zêzere, always carrying out intricate calculations and measurements, tracing and cutting tunnels and new access routes.
