In 1977 Bart handed over the company to his sons Bert and Willem. Under their leadership, the company was given a new name: Gebroeders Coenmans. They continued to expand the company and were hired in 1990 to cut railway carriages in France. Many mines were also cleared during that time. Brother Willem liked working and living in France so much that he chose to settle there for good. He bought land and started Coenmans Recyclage there.
Bert Coenmans stayed in the Netherlands, expanded the company in Beesd further and gave it the name Bercon, derived from his first and last name. He struggled for years with the municipality to get all the permits and to be allowed to build new on the same location. The persistence wins: in 2008 all permits had been issued and the new yard was completed.
Bert currently still works in the company, but his children Sabine and Paul form the current management.
SUSTAINABLE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS
Our beautiful family business is situated in the ecological area “EHS” (Ecologische HoofdStructuur NL). Of course we would like to see not only the current generation, but also all future generations enjoying all the beauty that this beautiful nature reserve has to offer. That is why we do everything we can to make the recycling of our materials as clean and efficient as possible.
Governing is looking ahead, so with the new building in 2008 we took into account not only the environmental requirements applicable at the time, but also those of the future. Our entire site has a liquid-tight floor, and all our rainwater is collected and purified by our own installations. We also check all materials entering or leaving our site for radioactivity and pollution. Finally, our machinery (cranes and trucks) also meets the latest environmental requirements. In this way we contribute to a sustainable future.
FAMILY BUSINESS
Our organization can rightly be called a family business. It all started in 1962, with Bart Coenmans' metal trade in Culemborg. The metal trade in Culemborg was thriving at that time, and Bart's company also boomed. In fact, things were going so well for him that he could no longer work from home, so he started looking for a new place to work. This became the place where Bercon is still located today
