APC is a full service construction company as well as an aggregate mining/processing company and a materials supplier. We have the latest technology in equipment for preparing and laying asphalt, mining and crushing rock, and recycling aggregate. This technology, combined with our experience and craftsmanship, give you the best product at the best price. We are a locally and family owned business, founded in 1955, based in Golden, Colorado. From fixed and portable batch plants we serve the Denver metropolitan area, the entire state of Colorado and adjacent states. We use only the best materials and maintain the highest standards of workmanship with your needs in mind. We are a national quality award winner because of this philosophy.
Construction management is your key to quality and timely completion. Our management specialists control each phase of your project, letting us maintain tighter schedules. Early completion allows you to save construction costs, and by opening sooner, gives you increased revenues.
APC produces a wide variety of high quality aggregates for both functional and aesthetic uses. Our aggregates are unequaled in strength and durability. The strength of the material enhances concrete and improves wear of asphalt and concrete surfaces and seal coats. The material’s high resistance to heat makes it excellent for use in furnace or fireplace linings and facias. With our full mining and crushing operation we can make any size rock from boulder to rock chips for chip seals. We screen and combine these aggregates to meet any gradation or specification that your job may require.
Company History
From the roads and runways at Denver International Airport to the top of Vail Pass, including many local highways and area sub-divisions in between, if you live in or have visited Denver, you've driven on some of the best paving work in the area.
APC is located in Golden, was founded in 1955 by John H. Keller. Mr. Keller's vision was to build a company that would provide jobs and be an enterprise that could be passed along through the family. Three generations later, APC remains a family owned business carrying on Mr. Keller's original vision and is dedicated to maintaining the highest standard of quality workmanship in the industry.
For many years, John H. Keller operated APC with a primary focus on offering local paving services. John's son, Bill, was involved in the business from early on. Then, in 1968, wanting to venture out on his own, Bill created a company called Keller Construction Co. which focused on building bridges and providing curb and gutter. Keller Construction Company operated independently of APC working as a subcontractor to the asphalt company as needed.
Upon retiring in 1970, John H. Keller sold most of the assets of APC In 1971, Bill purchased the company name which led to its rebirth. With Bill's strong leadership and vision the company grew and operated successfully throughout the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's! Today, Bill's oldest son, Jeff, serves as president of APC while his second son, John, serves as president of Alpine Rock Co in both Summit & Park Counties. With a strong family base, APC remains a great contributor to the Colorado economy.
APC is a full-service construction and aggregate mining/processing business as well as a materials supplier. The company produces a wide variety of high quality aggregates, unequaled in strength and durability, for both functional and aesthetic uses. From roadways to parking lots to furnace and fireplace linings and fascias, APC mines and produces the best aggregate in the area, mostly from a quarry located just north of Golden on Highway 93.
Highly concerned about the environment, APC goes to great lengths to conserve natural resources and to protect the area's ecosystem. Portable asphalt plants allow for on-site processing whenever possible. Recycling existing pavement into new work, reclamation of aggregate mining areas, and the use of state-of-the-art pollution control equipment at all production facilities are just a few examples of how APC ensures it is part of an environmental solution rather than a contributor to the problem.
Considered a "small" company compared to its competition, APC employs nearly 200 people depending on the workload and the industry's seasonal demands. However, for a "small" company, it has a big reputation with national recognition. Walk through the main office at 14802 West 44th Avenue and you will see trophies and awards honoring the company for its dedication to quality work and interest in helping others achieve. APC has received numerous local and national awards for its workmanship, partnering ability, high integrity and innovation. The company tends to bid on and is awarded those jobs that are more difficult to complete which in turn ranks them at the top of their industry throughout the United States. For example, in 1984, APC undertook the first specified night paving job in the Denver area, receiving recognition for its quality workmanship. The company takes pride in being able to supply materials and having the experience to handle new, innovative jobs and those that require stringent specifications or even experimental materials.
Other awards credited to APC include the National Asphalt Pavement Association's (NAPA) Overlay Award, the second most prestigious paving award in the United States, for resurfacing a portion of I-70 at Floyd Hill and the NAPA "Quality in Construction Awards" for the E-470 Tollway Project, and the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA) Award in recognition of paving work along Highway 58 that lasted over 23 years without needing additional repair. Similarly APC has been locally and nationally recogonized with the "Excellence in Partnering Award" for the company's commitment, contributions and cooperation while working with other subcontractors to complete joint projects, and numerous honors for excellence in construction, workforce development and compliance to stringent safety standards.
In conjunction with its involvement in local and trade association, APC is known throughout the community for its longtime sponsorship of area youth programs such as basketball, baseball and football leagues, and most recently, the Junior Drag Racing National Championships. Furthermore, APC continues to actively support many philanthropic causes at both the local and national levels.
A family dedicated to helping other families build strong working ties, APC is a trusted name in its industry and the Jefferson County community.
