About us
American Shredding is a member of the national recycling group Green Planet 21. It was incorporated in 2005 by principals who are long-standing members of the recycling and information destruction industries. Steve Sutta is the President of American Shredding, Green Planet 21, and the Sutta Company. In 1975, Sutta founded Engineered Waste Control (EWC) with Michael Swernoff and Fritz Sparks to recycle paper in the Bay Area. They later sold EWC to Weyerhaeuser. The Sutta Company began destroying confidential information in 1982 for IBM. Assured Shredding followed and was later sold.
After many years in the forestry and paper recycling industries throughout the U.S., Steve Spence, joined Sutta in the early 1990s. Now the COO, Spence is focused on long-term operational management and planning for ten plants west of the Mississippi. Dave Williams, currently the CFO, has been the environmental economist and company attorney since 1994. Cindy Casey manages our group work in the plastics markets. James Bell, Mike McQuillen, Tim Erlandson, and Michael Swernoff, and Kelvin Li have also made key contributions in our work with paper and other markets. Combined, these individuals have more than 150 years of cumulative experience in the information destruction and recycling industries.
