For over sixty years, the AIIS mission has focused on supporting free trade in order to advance the economic growth that is so important to the steel supply chain, and to the men and women who work in it.
To that end, we have supported trade-liberalizing agreements such as the NAFTA, the Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the new WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement. We strongly support current trade negotiations such as the 12-country Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations, and the United States-EU trade negotiations.
We believe that United States trade remedy laws should be applied in a fair, commercially rational manner. Working with steel consumers, the AIIS played a major role in obtaining an early termination of the Section 201 duties at the mid-point review in December 2003. The AIIS also supports the elimination of Buy American preferences and trade-distorting subsidies for steel producers. The AIIS strongly supports and works cooperatively with United States Customs and Border Protection to make the day-to-day process of importing steel through United States ports less burdensome, and to help importers with concerns and issues that may arise at the border.
The American Institute for International Steel is the only steel-related trade association that supports free trade. The Institute accomplishes our mission through advocacy, networking, communications, and education.
