Aluminum Can Bank of America is simplifying recycling as you know it today.
We have made aluminum can recycling convenient, easy, clean and rewarding
Aluminum can takes 95% less energy than creating a new one – roughly enough energy to power a television for three hours straight? Oh, and did you know that aluminum can be recycled indefinitely? Yet due to limited availability of recycling resources and outlets, Americans recycle only 56% of their aluminum cans which means we add over one million pounds of aluminum to our landfills every year!
Bernie and Sandy Senser are considered true pioneers in the recycling industry.
Entrepreneurs to the core, the Sensers spent many months looking for the right opportunity to combine their business, financial management, and scrap backgrounds into a business of their own. The result of their search was Cyclemet, inc., a scrap metal recycling center founded in Columbus, Ohio in 1984. From their tiny scrap metal start up with only Bernie and Sandy to their expanded state of the art facility with their grown children along side them, the Senser family business offers a commitment to community, customer friendly conveniences, state of the art technology, and snacks for any visitors to the shop.
Prior to launching CycleMET, Bernie earned an industrial design degree from Columbus College of Art and Design and worked many years as a senior designer for Hoover and Admiral Corporations. In 1975 he joined the family business in Mansfield, OH where he obtained his scrap business knowledge and talent for buying scrap metal. His design background has been instrumental in the creation of specialized equipment that has revolutionized the recycling business of CycleMET. Aluminum Can Bank has been Bernie’s design project for the past eight years. In his spare time he has focused on producing a portable, user-friendly, attractive, and efficient way to recycle aluminum cans.
Sandy also grew up in a family-owned business which led to her becoming a CPA after earning a business degree from Miami University of Ohio. After working with Ernst & Young, she began consulting for many different industries including nonprofits and small manufacturers acting as controller and manager of accounting. As opposites often do attract, Sandy’s experience in accounting and human resource management have been the perfect complement to Bernie’s technical business know-how at CycleMET.
In their spare time, Bernie and Sandy have volunteered as board members and officers for “Keep Franklin County Beautiful” and “Keep Columbus Beautiful,” in addition to participating in and volunteering for various community organizations. Bernie and Sandy also enjoy spending time with their family, relaxing for just a few minutes on a beach, or riding their bikes around the neighborhood.
