Altra Source, Inc was incorporated in October of 1986 by it's founder, William A. Stevens. It was created to form the foundation for future entrepreneurial ventures. During the first two years the company purchased a few personal computers and vehicles and leased them to an area business to assist in building cash and asset base. In December of 1988, Altra Source purchased fabricating machinery and equipment, leased a 6,000 square foot shop and formed a steel fabrication company. In November 1989 the business was expanded to form Altra Builders, Inc.

Altra Builders today specializes in commercial and industrial construction and steel fabrication. Altra offers design/build, project management and general contracting services to a wide variety of projects big and small. Altra is a dealer of Star Building Systems, which enables customers to get a custom design building for a variety of different uses.

Altra currently focuses on structural steel fabrication and erection, miscellaneous steel fabrication and the Star Building Systems custom design buildings. We service all of the Chicagoland area including Kankakee, Northwest Indiana, & Southeast Wisconsin. From supplying steel for your project to designing and completing a turn-key building solution from the ground up... and everything in between, Altra can handle your commercial and industrial needs.

University Park, Illinois is home to Altra's 12,000 square foot facility located at the Governor's Gateway Industrial Park. Striving hard to leave behind the mark of quality on any project we undertake.
