What is Jewelry WAX?
Wax is carved or printed for lost wax casting. The jeweler either makes a Wax or Metal Model. This model is than either Straight Cast. Which means that when you drop off a Wax we give you it back in metal. Or your piece of jewelry can be made into a mold out of a Metal model and that mold can be used for mass production.
MOLDS: Molds originated in Rubber. This rubber form of mold is still used today but there are a few different forms of molds out there on the market now. Silicone is great for smaller more delicate detailed pieces and there are even non shrinkable rubber molds which can be great for larger pieces that you want to avoid shrinkage on. Each type of mold has a different benefit. Depending on your jewelry piece and what you are looking for we can help recommend the best type of mold for you.
If you choose to make a mold. We will than have our expert team of Wax Makers inject the mold with hot wax. After the wax is dry they will remove this wax from your mold. That wax will than be added to our wax tree and put into the Casting Process.
What is Jewelry CASTING?
The Caster starts the casting process the day before casting actually takes place. First the caster will take the wax tree and put it in an investment.
This investment has to sit over night to become sold around the wax tree. The next day the Caster will take the investment and put it in a very hot oven to burn out the wax. This creates a cavity with your jewelry design.
Than the Caster will fill that cavity with any metal of your choosing. 10kt, 14kt, 18kt, 20kt, 22kt, 24kt, Platinum, Sterling Silver, or Brass. This metal has to sit for a very specific amount of time before it is submerged in water to cool it down.
Than the Caster cuts all of the pieces off the tree. Leaving a very shot Sprue. The sprue is where the jewelry piece was attached to the limb of the tree. This Sprue will than be cleaned off by yourself or a jeweler.
