History
It all started in 1939.
Alois Gihl, from Bernried / Lower Bavaria, was stationed in Eppelborn during World War II.
During this time he met Anna, née Theobald, and settled in Calmesweiler.
In 1948 Alois Gihl founded a company that transported coal and building materials.
In 1950 Alois Gihl bought the quarry site in St. Wendel-Haupersweiler. There he began - initially by hand - with the production of ballast.
In 1960 the first construction machine (Zettelmeyer L501) was purchased.
In the mid-1970s, the company moved to Pfeffelbach / Rhineland Palatinate, where today there is a cooperation with the Juchem company in Niederwörresbach.
Alois Gihl GmbH was founded in 1977. Hermann Gihl became the managing director. For decades, Hermann Gihl was actively supported by his wife.
Martin Gihl joined the company's management in 2008 as co-managing director.
In 2016, Martin Gihl took over the management of the company as the sole managing partner.
Alois Gihl died in August 1982 at the age of 68.
