Aegean Forest Foundation is a public benefit foundation which was founded in 1995. Being a volunteer foundation, it was founded with the principle of creating new forest areas, protecting forests and spreading green consciousness among society. Afforestation works are being carried out all over the country within state forests and areas belonging to public institutions. The Foundation aims to leave a more livable world for the next generations by planting 12 million trees in 75 thousand decares. Planted saplings are protected until they grow and become a natural part of the forests.

History 

The Aegean Region which is in the west of Turkey has a typical Mediterranean climate and flora. İzmir which is the third biggest city of Turkey and is also an important commercial harbor is the capital of the region.

Industrialist Mr. Cem Bakioğlu, started out in 1995 to save the arid appearance of İzmir caused by excessive housing and forest fires. By mobilizing Bakioğlu Group of Companies, Bakioğlu Forest which has 40 thousand saplings in an area of 70 hectares around Adnan Menders Airport was liberated. Two thousand nature fans who participated to the sapling planting ceremony of the forest, have constituted the synergy which further caused the Aegean Forest Foundation to be founded by Mr. Cem Bakioğlu.
