For treatment or reuse, AWS has developed Submerged Fixed-Bed Biofilm Reactor (SFBBR) technology into a system which can be deployed via self-contained wastewater treatment plants or retrofit into existing activated sludge facilities.
AWS self-contained plants are approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), thereby meeting the "ten-states standards". Our design engineer is M. Truett Garrett, Sc.D., P.E., who was instrumental in the development of much of the City of Houston's wastewater treatment infrastructure and responsible for a substantial portion of the TCEQ's regulatory guidelines.
We offer standard sized units, but can also manufacture custom sizes depending on the application. AWS technology offers effluent qualities in line with MBR systems but at much lower capital and O & M costs.
SFBBR technology utilizes special media, with high surface area density, that provides ideal conditions for biofilm formation. In contrast to random floating pieces, such as in MBBR systems, fixed films have no chance of "escaping" the treatment process due to hydraulic fouling.
AWS technology does not need a return activated sludge (RAS) component and generally requires only a Class D operator certification (Texas). Self-contained units are built on skids for easy installation/removal, making them perfect for scaling up or down as needed.
Wastewater Treatment
New Real Estate Developments - Subdivisions, High Rises, Apartment Complexes, Mobile Home Parks, Work Camps, etc.
Development can progress despite lack of municipal infrastructure
Self-contained portable systems allow for easy scalability
Avoid tying up capital for capacity not yet needed
Small foot print allows for use in commercial, industrial and multi-family applications
Decentralized option when access to central system is costly due to distance or other factors
Capacity Replacement - Existing WWTF's, Especially Smaller Cities/Towns/Community Developments, etc.
Replace failing systems with more advanced yet cost-effective SFBBR technology by AWS
Capacity Addition
Easily "drop in" additional treatment capacity (see also- Retrofix Applications)
Scale up according to the need - prevents unnecessary overbuilding
May allow facility to delay or avoid costly "forced planning" under regulatory guidelines
Hauled Waste
AWS systems are capable of handling waste strength higher than normal domestic sewage
Disaster Relief
Portable design, rapid start-up and small foot print make AWS units ideal for disaster relief situations
