History

We have been in the metal finishing and plating industry since 1962 and 1957, respectively, and under the ownership of current president Allan Phillips since 1987.

Bristol Plating was founded by George Bailey and Tom Burton, and started operations in Toronto’s east end in 1957. From there it relocated in 1962 to its present premises. The plant had to be extended a number of times due to the growing market demand. In 1963, a warehouse was added and by 1972, the neighboring building was purchased as additional factory area.

Active Metal Finishing was founded by Henry Stendon in 1962 and first started operating from their Bering Street location in Etobicoke before moving to the present location.

The consolidation of the two privately owned companies saw an extensive expansion of production and service capabilities in 1998 and 1999. The factory was also retrofitted at the same time to offer a complete range of plating to our customers. Included in the facility upgrade were office renovations and an enterprise-wide computerization of all aspects of company operations.

In 2004 the company established a 10,000 sq ft powdercoating plant and in 2013 a large format shotblasting facility was added.

This long history is the foundation from which The Metal Finishing Center will continue to set new standards of metal finishing excellence in North America.
