AB Järnbruksförnödenheter (JBF) has been the Swedish steelworks' purchasing agent for unalloyed steel and cast iron scrap since 1917. We work to cost-effectively supply the steelworks with scrap raw material and logistically optimize deliveries between scrap suppliers and steelworks. We work together with scrap suppliers to improve the recycling and recycling of scrap steel.
Of the global steel production of just over 1,600 million tonnes per year, approximately 570 million tonnes comes from molten steel scrap. The properties of steel to be recycled into new products are unlimited, as long as it is carefully sorted to utilize the constituent alloy metals and to avoid contaminants such as copper and tin. The magnetic properties of iron favor an efficient separation of steel and iron from industrial or household waste.
Steel and iron scrap is the most recycled material and world trade in scrap covers about 100 million tonnes per year.
The US Environmental Protection Agency has shown that if recycled steel scrap replaces iron ore in steel production, energy consumption is reduced by 75%, consumption of primary raw materials (from the earth) by 90% and significantly less emissions to the environment of e.g. CO2.
