In 1886 Adolph Landau established A. Landau and Company. He was one of the pioneers in the diamond tool industry. He remained its active head until 1940. In 1900 Jack H. Landau joined his father, Adolph in the business. Jack managed the company until 1954. Herman E. Landau joined his father Jack, and grandfather, Adolph in the business in 1934 when it became a third generation company. In 1954 Herman assumed the active management.

In 1925 Louis A. Sgro began Louis A. Sgro Company where he actively engaged in the manufacture and design of diamond tools for thirty years. In 1955 A. Landau and Company and Louis A. Sgro Company merged and became A. Landau Company. This merger combined the knowledge and long experience of two companies in a new and modern plant in Philadelphia, PA.Herman and Louis together ran the company. Robert L. Sgro joined his father, Louis in 1960 he learned the business and took over management in 1970. In 1980 Louis A. Sgro, son of Robert joined the business. And in 1990 Thomas M. Sgro joined his father and brother. In 1991 A. Landau Company moved to its current location in Warminster, PA.

Robert along with his two sons, Louis and Thomas run the company today, using the same philosophy for over 100 years.

Our research and engineering facilities have been continuously concentrated on the phases of this highly specialized business, from the intricacies of the rough diamonds and their precise applications, to the formulation of our own special alloys and setting materials which are so vital to producing fine quality tools and wheels.
