2013 UK 60th Anniversary of Coronation Silver Proof 5oz Coin
Product Details:
On 2 June 1953 Queen Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey. In that same year The Royal Mint struck her first coins, and in 2013 we mark the 60th anniversary of both events. Our collection of premier commemorative coins bear designs that commemorate this landmark year, each capturing the pageantry of that spectacular Coronation day. With its full five ounces of fine silver, the 2013 UK Silver Proof Five-Ounce Coin makes both a fitting tribute and impressive addition to the most exclusive collections.
Only one other British monarch has reached the 60th anniversary of their Coronation, but collectors will note that when Queen Victoria celebrated the milestone in 1898, no commemorative coins were struck. This is a fact sure to make these anniversary coins even more desirable. The five-ounce coin is hugely impressive, its more than six-centimetre diameter used to full effect by the silversmith, Jonathan Olliffe.
The five-ounce coin is undeniably impressive. Its diameter - which is more than six-centimetres - is used to full effect by the silversmith, Jonathan Olliffe. He takes Westminster Abbey (the so-called ‘Royal Church) as his backdrop, with the iconic arches rendered in painstaking detail. Set in stark relief are the Sovereign’s Orb and Sceptre with Cross atop the sumptuous folds of the Coronation Robe, the national symbols that were embroidered upon it clearly visible. They embody the rich symbolism of the ceremony, and the faith and worldly power of the monarch. When captured in shining silver and struck to Royal Mint Proof quality – a standard renowned around the world – the anniversary coin is more than extraordinary.
