Should I take apart sealed units?

Sealed units are similar to electric motors but even harder to open and separate materials, including the copper wires inside.  We don't recomend breaking down sealed units as they are hard to open, unwind, and separate and takes a lot of time for each unit, not to mention the cost of saw blades that may be needed.  The copper wire inside is a #2 grade wire and would not get you top dollar if separated and sold.

Sealed units are a popular items at scrap yards, we suggest calling your local yards and asking for prices for whole units.  These are usually paid by the weight.
