Used plastic packaging has been recycled at the mtm plastics GmbH site in Niedergebra in Thuringia since 1994. Since then, the company has continued to develop technologically and is now one of the technology leaders in Europe in the field of recycling mixed plastic waste. mtm plastics produces high-quality polyolefin regranulates for injection molding projects.

In 2016, mtm plastics became a member of the Borealis Group, a leading provider of innovative solutions in polyolefins, base chemicals and fertilizers. After the acquisition, Borealis initiated an expansion project at the Niedergebra site, which significantly increased the total input capacity and greatly enhanced the ability to better serve the needs of the high-value recyclate market.
