B&M Delivery Service Ltd.

33 Hearst Avenue, Dryden, Ontario, Canada

In 1961, Bob Hammond & Morley Smith started a small delivery business. They bought a Volkswagen van and secured a contract with Harley’s Supermarket to deliver groceries to customers’ homes. Morley soon left the business, but Bob carried on.

During the 1960’s Mr. Hammond acquired several mail delivery contracts for Canada Post. In 1968, the Town of Dryden residential garbage collection contract came open. B&M Delivery Service won the contract and has held it continually ever since.

Further expansion led B&M to acquire dump trucks and loader-backhoes to deliver aggregate and carry out excavating contracts. The equipment also was used to plow snow in the winter.

In the 1970’s, B&M introduced dumpster bin service to commercial customers who would accumulate large amounts of garbage. A rear-load format was chosen because the same rear-load packer trucks could also be used for curbside garbage collection.

In 2001, Mr. Hammond, wishing to retire, sold the business to the shareholders of Skene Transfer and Supply: Robert Skene, Alan Skene and Alan’s wife Ursula Skene-Refuli. Robert moved over to become the manager of B&M Delivery Service Ltd., leaving Alan and Ursula to continue managing Skene Transfer and Supply.

At the time the Skenes purchased the business, there were 44 dumpster bins in service. Over the next 10 years, the number grew to 240. In 2004, the next expansion included the purchase of a used roll-off truck. This was a new service in the community which was well received and is thriving in today’s market.

In 2004, B&M Delivery Service purchased Centennial Sewage from Ray and Maria deClerc. Centennial Sewage operated a commercial bin service and septic tank pumping service with two vacuum trucks.

In 2012 Bob Skene approached me, Norm Balla of Balla Bros Rentals, to purchase the entire business, but at the time, for one reason or another, it did not come to fruition.

In late 2015 I approached Bob to purchase the septic business only, but after further thoughts decided to put an offer in to purchase the septic and waste management divisions of B&M Delivery Services. So we are here today April 29, 2016, myself and some long time friends as investors have purchased the above said, and I’m now in charge of managing day to day operations. Andy Shephard of Suntrac Contracting & Rentals has purchased the snow removal equipment and will be supplying customers with that service. For Bob who I have dealt with from day 1, is somewhere around the world travelling with his sweet heart or in his sail boat or at his home on his beloved Jeep or tractors enjoying the next stage of his life, Retirement!

We look forward to dealing with all current customers and the new ones that we will come across in the future. Thanks for your time in reading this.
