For over 30 years, Midwest Sanitation & Recycling has taken great “Pride in Service,” specializing in residential, commercial, and industrial waste management and recycling services, roll-off dumpsters, packer containers, and port-o-lets. We aspire to meet the needs of our customers and their communities by offering the best service available at affordable rates.The trash and recycling services our customers know and value today began in 1981, when Lyle and Kathy Vander Meiden, the owners of KAL Services, purchased Midwest Sanitation Service. At that time, the business consisted of four employees and two sanitation trucks.

Since then, Lyle and Kathy’s sons, Aaron and Bryan, have come on board, bringing new ideas and a vast knowledge of the industry. Midwest Sanitation & Recycling has grown to a full-service waste management and recycling company with over 40 employees and 30 trucks.Through the years, Midwest Sanitation has expanded and diversified. In 1990, Lyle and Kathy foresaw a growth in the demand for environmentally friendly services. Today, Midwest Sanitation includes two recycling centers located in Pella and Oskaloosa. In September 2011, Midwest Sanitation expanded again with the purchase of Red Rock Rubbish. In 2013, the company acquired three additional businesses: Van Egmond, Kirby, and Thomas Sanitation. United under the name Midwest Sanitation & Recycling, our team of waste management and recycling specialists continues to look for ways to better serve our customers in and around Pella and Oskaloosa.

RECYCLING

Midwest Sanitation & Recycling has two recycling centers located in Pella and Oskaloosa and offers recycling services in Oskaloosa, Knoxville, Pella, and surrounding communities including Newton, New Sharon, Grinnell, Otley, Monroe, Harvey, Tracy, Sully, Chariton, Albia, Centerville, Eddyville, and Ottumwa.oskaloosa-recycling-center-midwest-sanitation-and-recyclingThe Oskaloosa Recycling Center, completed in 2008, meets the growing demands for recycling in Midwest Sanitation & Recycling’s service area. The state-of-the-art recycling center is a 17,000 square-foot building capable of diverting 300 tons of material from local landfills every month.

Several features make the recycling center “green.” The main piece of equipment is a paper-fiber baler capable of processing three tons of material an hour. The purchase of this baler was made possible with a grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and it tripled the amount of material Midwest Sanitation & Recycling could process. Other features include a plastic sorting and processing area and a certified-for-trade scale.

RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING

Curbside recycling is good for the environment, and utilizing it means you don’t have to take recyclables somewhere yourself.Midwest Sanitation & Recycling provides residential, curbside recycling in Pella, Oskaloosa, Monroe, Eddyville, Lynnville and Sully. We also serve other surrounding communities and rural areas, including Newton, New Sharon, Knoxville, Grinnell, Otley, Harvey, Tracy, Chariton, Albia, Centerville and Ottumwa. PORT-O-LETS

Midwest Sanitation & Recycling also provides convenient and sanitary Port-O-Let, or porta-potty, service. The company can provide toilets for any size request, from one to supplying hundreds for special events.Midwest Sanitation & Recycling offers several types of Port-O-Lets: standard, wheelchair accessible, and new, flushable toilets. DUMPSTERS

Midwest Sanitation & Recycling has several sizes of dumpsters from which to choose. The most common are the 2-yard and 3-yard dumpsters shown to the right. These dumpsters can be used for various needs. Doing a bathroom renovation, putting in new flooring, or ripping up some old carpet? The 2 or 3 yard will fulfill your needs for projects like that. When ordering for a temporary project, these dumpsters are billed on a per empty basis. If you are looking for permanent service, the pricing structure is a fixed rate per month.
