Electronic Waste (E-Waste)
Electronics waste or 'E-waste' is the outdated and obsolete electronics that you no longer want, and it's a waste stream that's growing fast. Many electronics, especially TVs and computers, contain toxic materials such as lead, cadmium and mercury. Reusing and recycling electronics keeps these toxic materials out of our landfills and also recovers valuable resources.
Scrap Metals
Recycling your scrap metal is important to our economy and environment. Did you know that in 2009, the United States recycled 58 million metric tons of metal? Or that over 600 steel or aluminum cans are recycled every second? A lot of that recycled metal went into the manufacture of new products and not in our landfills.
Card Board and Paper Free Drop Off for all your Card Board and Paper!
More and more Americans are recycling paper. In 2007, more than 54.3 million tons of paper were recovered for recycling in this country. That's about 56% of the paper we used, or about 360 pounds for every man, woman, and child.

A lot of that recycled metal went into the manufacture of new products and not in our landfills.Scrap metal is baled and processed and held for pickup by a third-party processor. Aluminum and steel are the two most common metals for recycling.
Aluminum can be recycled an infinite number of times without damaging its structure. Compared to the mining and production of new aluminum from bauxite, recycling aluminum is less energy intensive and more cost effective.
Steel can be recycled almost indefinitely without losing quality. In fact, scrap steel is essential to the production of new steel. At least 25 percent of new steel consists of recycled material.
Ferrous Metals The term ferrous is an adjective used to indicate the presence of iron. Ferrous metals include steel and pig iron which contain a few percent of carbon and alloys of iron with other metals, such as stainless steel.

What happens to my electronics?
After you drop off your e-waste, it is locally dismantled or 'de-manufactured' into core components that are then used to manufacture new recycled goods. Such components include glass, plastic and circuit boards. The circuit boards themselves contain reusable metals such as copper, gold and silver.
Secure handling of data is available If you're concerned about sensitive data, secure handling of data is also available. You can take the hard drive or other secure data components directly to the de-manufacturer to watch them being shredded. However, once an item is dropped off at the Solid Waste Agency's recycling center, it is handled securely. All data will be shredded (if machine is de-manufactured) or government level 'wiped,' if components can be recycled. We do not allow scavenging of electronics turned in for recycling.
Recycling your appliances:
- Keeps harmful chemicals such as CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs and mercury out of the landfill and atmosphere.
- Recovers reusable materials such as metal, plastic, glass and oil.
- Saves energy. Recycling existing materials to make products uses less energy than manufacturing new products from virgin materials.
