E-Cycling: The Process of E-Waste Recycling
MGE is one of the most innovative and trusted digital e-cycling and remarketing solutions provider in the industry. Our customized solutions maximize revenue for our clients while minimizing their environmental impact on the planet. Our passion, innovative process and commitment to customer and community alike allow us to boast the highest ROI and best overall value for our clients.
The E-Cycling Process
Recycling Electronics is a very simple and eco-friendly process. First, all electronic items collected by MGE are evaluated to determine their most valuable, practical, and environmentally safe recycled function. As a result, some electronic items are disassembled and their components are separated for refurbishing, salvage, or scrap as e-waste and commodities. We break down, treat and/or process the used electronics we collect, making the resulting materials more suitable for reuse. Our goal is to take every piece of every electronic item we collect and turn it into a reusable component or commodity. Once all valuable components have been salvaged for remarketing, and we are left with items that are to be scrapped, they are shredded into pieces smaller than 2 inches in diameter, and separated using a process that is 95% automated. The results include iron, copper, aluminum, plastic, glass, shredded circuit boards, precious metal mix, and other valuable materials. Some of these are further processed using our network of associated companies and other responsible recyclers.
Protection for Our Clients
computer confidentialIn the e-cycling process, MGE is always concerned about security for our clients and their data. Our procedures for data and product destruction protect your intellectual property, brand, and confidential data. All items are inventory tracked by serial number, ESN or asset tag at receipt to ensure the ability to audit final disposition, with the capability to link subsystem serial numbers. We are able to provide certificates of destruction, downstream auditing and approved refining solutions. Our e-cycling procedures comply with and exceed all EPA regulations and guidelines for handling e-waste and other hazardous materials. Finally our reporting provides the detail and downstream information needed to support sustainability programs and environmental impact avoidance necessary for our clients.
Cell Phone Recycling
Cell phone recycling is easy, and can even be profitable, but most people don’t do it. Did you know – About 50 millions cell phones are replaced worldwide each month, and only 10% are recycled? Most people upgrade their phone every 21.7 months according to Recon Analytics, and when they do the old phone goes into a drawer or worse, the landfill. Here at MGE we pay for your old cell phones – working or not!
Cell Phone Recycling is a Great Fundraiser
That is why cell phone recycling makes a great fundraiser for your church, school or other non-profit organization. We will even help with the promotion of your event, and pay for shipping from cell phone recycling projects in other parts of the country. The bonus is that we get to educate more people about the importance of electronics recycling. The reason we can pay for old cell phones, even when they are no longer working, is because of components and raw materials that we are able to recover. Many cell phone components can often be recycled and reused. In addition, for every 1,000,000 cell phones recycled, 35 thousand pounds of copper, 772 pounds of silver, 75 pounds of gold, and 33 pounds of palladium can be recovered.
Computer Recycling
Computer Recycling is important for our environment and can be lucrative for your company or non-profit organization. We have IT Asset Disposition and Remarketing services for companies, where we will often pay you for old and obsolete equipment, offsetting the purchase of new equipment while protecting the environment. Pickup for obsolete equipment is free for local companies and government. Residential customers can bring old computers to our drop off locations or one of our public collection events. We also help non-profits and charities organize cell phone and computer recycling fundraisers, which have proven to be very effective. The computers can often be refurbished and resold here in the US or in other countries. It’s energy efficient to rebuild old computers, but only about 2% of PCs ever find their way to a second user. Even when they are beyond resale, we can strip them down for parts and components, as well as raw materials. When we resell the computer, we are always careful to wipe the hard drive to protect the previous owner.
