Benton County Solid Waste District

5702 Brookside Rd, Bentonville, Arkansas, United States

The Benton County Solid Waste District is one of 18 Regional Solid Waste Management Districts in Arkansas. The Solid Waste Districts are partners in solid waste management activities with the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.

Our Mission

The Benton County Solid Waste District is a governmental agency responsible for assisting citizens with proper management of solid waste, including all the garbage and recoverable resources created by households, commercial sites (e.g. restaurants, offices, stores), and institutions (e.g. schools, museums, libraries). The District supports integrated waste management options to safely and effectively manage municipal solid waste. An integrated waste management system focuses on the following concepts:

METAL RECYCLING OPTIONS

The Bulky Waste Convenience Center, a partnership between the Benton County Judge’s Office and the Solid Waste District, provides scrap metal recycling at no charge but without compensation:If the item was manufactured to contain refrigerant (such as refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, etc.), you will likely need to have the refrigerant recovered before recycling the item. Federal law requires that items manufactured to contain refrigerant must be evacuated by a properly trained and certified technician in order to reduce the risk of the release of refrigerant into the atmosphere.

All food items must be removed from refrigerators and freezers prior to disposal.

  • Metal Items (water heaters, grills, bicycles, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washers/dryers, metal fencing, metal lawn furniture etc.)
  • All food items must be removed from refrigerators and freezers prior to disposal.

ELECTRONIC WASTE

Electronic waste, also know as e-Waste, refers to electronic products coming to the end of their 'useful life.' Many of these items can be reused, refurbished, or recycled.

BULKY WASTE

Citizens who live inside a municipality (inside city limits) may have curbside collection of bulky waste available through their city’s waste hauling contract. If included, the service is usually free and items will be picked up at the curb in front of your home.  Contact your city’s waste hauler or the City Administration office directly for more information. If you are unsure of who your city waste hauler is, please call the District office at (479) 795-0751.Bulky waste items are often difficult for citizens to properly dispose of due to their large size or the hazardous nature of some components. Examples include furniture, appliances, electronics, etc. Improper disposal of these items can cause potential injury or pollution such as the release of heavy metals, carcinogens or refrigerants into our local environment. Proper disposal of these items reduces these risks.

The District offers a curbside pickup program for bulky items from households for a transportation fee of $20.00 for first item and $5.00 for each additional item. Collection requests from various residents are scheduled in batches and usually occur once per week. Advance payment by check or credit card is required. To make arrangements for a pickup, please call the District office at (479) 795-0751.There may be additional fees for items containing freon that are scheduled by a business or commercial entity.Refunds are not given for Bulky Service fees unless you cancel before your scheduled day of pick up.

RECYCLING

Recycling is a process through which waste materials can be manufactured into reusable forms. Recycling saves energy and reduces pollution by reducing the need for virgin resources. The purchase of recycled products is the final step in the recycling process.Whether through curbside recycling pickup, drop-off collection centers, or recycling drives, Benton County citizens have many opportunities to recycle.

Many cities and municipalities in Benton County have curbside recycling pickup available. Contact your municipal waste hauler or your city administration office for information about the curbside program in your area, if applicable. There are several permanent recycling drop-off centers in Benton County. Typically these facilities allow access to bins for drop-off of household recyclables 24 hours per day.

ROLL OFF CONTAINER PROVIDERS

Some waste companies provide roll off containers (dumpsters). Businesses and industry often utilize large, open-top waste containers called “roll off containers” for disposal of solid waste. On occasion, individuals may find these containers useful as well. For instance, during an addition or remodel to your home.Transfer stations are solid waste facilities where waste is brought in in smaller containers such as pickup trucks, compactor trucks and roll off containers and is then “transferred” to open-top semi-trailers to be transported to a landfill for final disposal. Citizens may deliver waste items that are not collected by waste haulers, such as furniture, to a transfer station. A fee is charged for the disposal. The fee varies based on the amount of waste. Each transfer station sets their own rates.
