US Plastic Recovery

1600 Cross Pointe Way STE-C , Duluth, Georgia, United States

The United States is the most advanced industrial and manufacturing nation. It produces enormous amounts of manufacturing scrap, much of it plastic. Industry produces 3 kinds of output: finished product, scrap, and waste. Finished product is what you purchase and use as a consumer, for example cars, mattresses, and baby bottles. Scrap is excess material from the manufacturing process that has resale value. Waste is excess material that has negative value, because it must be hauled away, possibly reprocessed to render it non-hazardous, and lastly land-filled for a fee.
Scrap is normally metal, chemical, polymer, or paper. As explained above, scrap has monetary value. Examples of manufacturing scrap include 500 lb. contaminated hard plastic blobs, tiny metal trimmings from milling machines, contaminated liquid sugar solution, and white kraft paper trimmings. The amount of scrap produced by industrial companies in the US is staggering. Billions of pounds of scrap are produced each year, recycled, and then blended back into new finished products. The word “scrap” implies the material has at least some monetary value and it can be reprocessed into a usable product. USPR helps companies properly manage their metal scrap, but we do not purchase it or process it. We normally advise our industrial clients on which metal recycling companies to use and fair pricing targets to negotiate with those yards. USPR only deals with large entities including corporations, political organizations, manufacturing facilities, and other large organizations.
If the material cannot be sold as finished product or scrap, it is disposed as waste. Waste cannot be used again, has zero or negative value, and it must be land-filled or reprocessed and then land-filled. Manufacturers work hard to minimize waste, but sometimes there is no alternative to land-filling. Examples of waste are some mixed plastics, very thin metal laminates, medical and other biologically active waste, and toxic or hazardous materials. USPR does not accept waste or hazardous materials. Curbside materials like drink and detergent bottles or glass can technically be recycled, but USPR does not handle this type of material. Curbside materials are typically routed into the municipal waste stream and are recycled, depending upon local laws.

USPR’s sources produce millions of pounds of industrial and commercial polymer scrap, like extruder purges, injection sprues, and defective/obsolete finished product. Industrial polymer scrap is physically tough, making it difficult or impossible for the industrial firm that produced it to recycle it in house. This is where USPR comes in. We have continuously invested in specific and powerful equipment. We are able to take that difficult polymer scrap and recycle it into a product with very high quality. Our people understand polymers due to their backgrounds in chemistry and the plastics industry. Our engineers continuously innovate equipment and processes to decrease processing cost, increase quality, and meet our customers’ needs.

We think we do the big jobs faster, at lower cost, and with higher quality than just about anyone else. Our customer list includes some of the largest and most respected polymer products companies in the US and Canada. Many of the products that you use every day are in fact manufactured by companies that are polymer processors. Our clients are producing millions of pounds of scrap, we are reprocessing it and then selling it to other polymer processing companies. These customers of USPR blend our products into their virgin plastics to decrease their raw materials costs. In many cases, our process produces such a high quality and consistent product that our customers extrude it at 100% into automotive and other products.

The post-industrial polymer scrap reprocessing industry has matured over the last few years. Many smaller players have been squeezed out due to smaller machinery, smaller industrial  account bases, lack of efficient plant architecture, lack of current infotech systems, and lack of modern process control methods. USPR has been at the forefront of the industry in these areas and has grown steadily as a result.

Due to our equipment and computerized shop floor controls, USPR also has the capability to destroy sensitive documents, secret data media, and dangerous products with a high level of process control. We can destroy these items in very high quantity, at very high speed, to a size small enough to meet your needs, including Department of Defense (DoD) specifications. USPR management is committed to making sure you get the destruction result your organization requires. We facilitate your witnessing as required by your protocols and we issue affidavits attesting to the work that was completed. USPR generally processes only large destruction jobs, for example military, government, religious, political, pharmaceutical, and major corporate entities.

History

US Plastics Recovery was formed in 2006. The founders were running a major paper recycling operation for a multinational integrated paper packaging corporation. They were dissatisfied with the level professionalism they were receiving from the regional industrial polymer recyclers, indicating a gap in the market. The company attempts to innovate continuously and has grown steadily to become a dominant player in the industry.

POLYMER SCRAP PURCHASING

USPR purchases plastic scrap from injection and blow molders, compounders, automotive parts makers, thermoformers, color houses, and national waste management firms. Specialties include PP, HDPE, LDPE, HIPS, Nylons (PA) and flexible PVC. We remove contaminants and talc via elutriation, sink-float, and size screeners.
USPR recycles plastics from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and many other states, plus Canada.

REGRIND, TOLLING, DESTRUCTION

USPR has 4 services: buying industrial polymer scrap, selling high quality plastic regrind, toll processing, and destruction. USPR only deals with large corporate and government entities.
With capacity of 5MM lbs. per month, USPR serves the largest of customers. Tolling services include shredding, manual picking, wet & dry grinding, float-sink, elutriation (air-washing), magnetic ferrous removal, and screening/size-classification. USPR tolls for many of the largest plastics processors in the US.
USPR has several competitive advantages that drive customer satisfaction and plant efficiency: advanced IT systems, very large machinery, and separation technology including floatation, air-washing, and screening.

NEW SCREENING CAPACITY

USPR has added screening capacity of 1 million pounds per month. A variety of size classifications are available. The new machinery can be used in series with previously existing USPR float-sink and elutriation systems to produce highly purified pellets or regrinds from contaminated streams. A purified regrind is better than an an almost pure repro pellet. Try it and see.Refineries, pellet compounders, and large processors liquidate floor sweep, off-spec, wide-spec, and contaminated pellet inventory to USPR or hire USPR to purify for a fee.

CELEBRATING OUR 10TH YEAR

Our methodical and conservative approach has yielded financial strength, high processing capacity, and the ability to handle many difficult contaminated industrial polymers streams, such as pellets, purges, pipe, sheet, fibers, textiles, and granules. Purges can be up to 2,000 lbs. and contaminated materials can be often accommodated with our varied equipment lines.
USPR provides industrial recycling, toll polymer reprocessing, complete recycling programs, and large-scale destruction services. USPR has expertise in all the major types of manufacturing scrap.
USPR has invented proprietary production systems that allow us to reprocess a very wide variety of materials and contaminated mixtures to over 99.99% pure. These competitive advantages allow us to pay more for your scrap.

USPR buys plastic scrap from small to large size plastic molders, pelletizers, compounders, distribution centers, pharmaceutical companies, and many other industries. We purchase plastics in many forms:

  • stretch wrap from distribution centers
  • plastic purges from extruders
  • plastic sprues and runners from parts molders
  • trim scrap from sheet manufacturers and the printing industry
  • packaging rejects from pharma and packaging operations
  • rolls and butt rolls with print
  • mixed regrinds and mixed purges
  • clean and mixed pellets
  • colorant pellets, masterbatch pellets, hopper drain, and floor sweeps
