GreenDisk began on April 22, 1993 (Earth Day!). Headquartered in Sammamish Washington, the company was founded by high tech industry veterans who had a particular passion for the environment.GreenDisk provides secured, audited disposal of intellectual property stored on electronic media and other technotrash. The resulting materials are then used to manufacture the GreenDisk branded line of office supplies. Through a set of strategic alliances, GreenDisk works with both for profit and non-profit companies to create a national network of service providers. Rather than build new manufacturing facilities and recycling centers, GreenDisk partners with these non-profit agencies. This creates jobs for workers with disabilities while creating an innovative set of recycling services along with a new line of recycled products.

Initially, the company focused on the need among software publishers for a secure system of disposal of their unsold packages of obsolete software. Their primary concern was for the destruction of the intellectual property. GreenDisk's concern was for accomplishing this important task in an environmentally responsible manner without compromising security. GreenDisk provides a solution to this problem by offering alternatives that create an audit trail to assure that all intellectual property is destroyed and the materials recycled. In response to demand GreenDisk began to offer its secure disposal services to a wider range of clients. The company now serves publishers, businesses, government agencies and individuals who have similar concerns about their data and their environment. The spectrum of materials recycled has also grown to include everything from a diskette to the whole PC. GreenDisk can now provide full recycling accountability for the entire range of technotrash.

Full Service Collection Boxes

GreenDisk offers two full-service collection box options that include the box, all transportation, the destruction of content on media, and recycling of associated material – the GreenDisk Technotrash Can and the GreenDisk eMedia Recycler.  

• Technotrash Cans are convenient collection boxes for CDs, diskettes, DVDs, ink cartridges, cell phones, videotapes, pagers, PDAs, and all of your small technotrash. Collection box, postage, processing, and Certificate of Destruction are all included for one low price. There are two sizes to choose from:  Standard and Tall. The Standard allows up to 35 lbs. The Tall allows up to 70 lbs. Space permitting in both boxes.
• eMedia Recycler focuses only on media and their cases. This service is perfect for those organizations that need to securely recycle dense media (such as CDs and DVDs) and want compliance reporting, an additional feature included with this service. The eMedia Recycler also has two sizes with the same dimensions as the Technotrash Can. The Standard allows up to 50 lbs. 

• Computer System – Monitor AND CPU. Includes the processing and shipping of a complete computer system - CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and cables. 35 lb. limit per box. You supply two boxes. Package the monitor in one box and the CPU, keyboard, mouse, etc. in the other. GreenDisk supplies a postage paid shipping label via email for you to place on the box.Single component or peripheral. Includes the processing and shipping of a SINGLE monitor, CPU, laptop, or peripheral. 35 lb. limit per box. You securely package the component in a box that you supply. GreenDisk supplies a postage page FedEx shipping label via email for you to place on the box.

GreenDisk uses FedEx for pickup of your Full-Service Box.  We have found FedEx to be:

• extremely reliable in effectively delivering all packages being sent to GreenDisk,
• an energy efficient option because FedEx takes direct routes to GreenDisk processing facilities, and
• highly convenient for the majority of GreenDisk clients.
