Legacy Landfill
238 County Road 476 , Jonesboro, Arkansas, United States
Our Mission
Using the principles of RECYCLE, REDUCE, REUSE, to fully represent and serve the citizens of Craighead county in the safe, efficient, economical, and lawful disposal of solid waste that results in 'shielding our natural resources thru proper disposal.'
SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL HISTORY
The Arkansas Solid Waste Management Act (Act 237) of 1971 defined the responsibilities and authority for local political bodies to manage their solid waste streams and the rules and regulations that govern those bodies. Our company was born out of this act, and had evolved over the years through different names, different service areas, different management, and different staffs to what it is today. The Authority serves the citizens of CRAIGHEAD County in accepting the solid waste stream and lawfully recycling, re-using, or disposing of it. The long term benefits to the current and future citizens are a clean environment, safe water supply, and general healthy quality of life.
How Am I Charged?
- If the material is coming from your home inside the City limits of Jonesboro, and you DO NOT have any kind of construction/remodeling materials (sheet rock, 2X4's, fencing, cabinets, shingles, and flooring excluding carpet, etc.) then there is no charge.
- If the material is construction/remodeling, (even if it is from your residence), or if it is from a business or out in the county, then there will be charges as follows:
- Minimum charge = $11.00 plus 7.5% sales tax for less than 600 pounds . $36.75 plus 7.5% sales tax per ton
What if I need to dispose of tires?
- Each licensed driver in Craighead County is allowed 4 passenger tires per MONTH at NO CHARGE
- There is a charge of $2 per tire for any over the 4 allowed per month
- If the tires are from a business, there will be a charge for each tire brought to the landfill (businesses are NOT eligible for the 4 exempt tires)
- Passenger Tires - $2/each
- Truck Tires - $5.75/each
- Specialty Tires - $15/each
How do I dispose of paint?
- If the paint cans are completely empty, bring them to the landfill
- If there is still paint in the cans, remove the lids and fill them with dirt, oil dry, or kitty litter. Leave the lids off for 48-72 hours. This will harden the paint enough that it should be able to be disposed of in the landfill. Replace the lid and bring it to the landfill and we can determine if it is acceptable.
Kurby's Spotlight Partner
Abilities Unlimited (AU) processes the recyclables collected by the Blue Bag Program in cooperation with the Craighead County Regional Solid Waste Management District (CCRSWMD).
When AU processes recyclables, it creates jobs for people with disabilities. The more YOU recycle, the more jobs we can create and reduce the waste entering the landfill.
Proceeds from the sale of recycled goods help Abilities Unlimited further its mission and reduce waste costs for the citizens of Craighead County.
