About E-waste
Unlike typical waste streams, E-waste carries with it the threat of exposure of highly sensitive information, potential legal liability for corporate officers, and the severe risk to reputation associated with polluting the environment with toxic substances such as mercury, lead, lithium and cadmium; hence the need for highly secure and environmentally responsible processes.
Environmental Stewardship
Poor environmental practices abound in the E-waste industry. We take environmental responsibility very seriously. That’s why we’ve built our own unique, highly ethical E-waste ecosystem. At ARTEX, protecting the environment isn’t just our job, it’s our passion. It’s what drives us to be innovative – to continually raise the bar on our own performance. See The ARTEX Story
The unfortunate truth about the E-waste business is that its environmental practices are often lax, sometimes non-existent and occasionally unlawful. E-waste, containing highly toxic materials such as mercury and lead routinely ends up in landfills, oceans, lakes and rivers or is shipped to developing counties where it contaminates the environment and poisons the people who live there. On the flip side, E-waste containing important recyclable materials often ends up in landfills, with those non-renewable resources unharvested. Environmental standards pertaining to the E-waste business, while minimally helpful, fall far short of what is needed to ensure good environmental protection. See Why Care
ARTEX raises the bar for environmentally responsible recycling in many ways, and our best practices are readily verifiable. Our processing facilities send zero E-waste to landfill, period, an accomplishment that we believe is unequalled in the North American E-waste business. We shred materials to half the size of the industry standard, allowing more recyclable materials to be recovered by our downstream partners. We not only meet but exceed industry environmental standards (See Credentials) and we set our own bar higher every year, continually improving our environmental scores.
A key aspect of environmental stewardship is what happens to E-waste materials when they are sent to downstream partners for further recycling. It is here that many of the most egregious environmental violations occur, and for that reason ARTEX has developed its own downstream partner ecosystem, comprising the most environmentally responsible recyclers in the business. To ensure that this ecosystem remains the industry’s best partner network, ARTEX regularly audits all of its downstream partners to ensure their best-in-class performance. Our customers can access this audit information.
