Who We Service
Synergy Recycling, LLC is a leading-edge electronics recycling firm located in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina. We have developed the finest system in the industry for shredding and mechanically separating used electronic equipment into commodity grade components. Our other services include demanufacturing, asset recovery, certified data destruction of sensitive media, and transportation services for the materials we handle.Synergy Recycling services clients from several different industries including healthcare, finance, education and manufacturing as well as county and municipal collection programs. Synergy is also the processor of choice for several other electronics recycling companies.
How We Service
Synergy Recycling operates its own fleet of van trailers and box trucks with which we accommodate pickups in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. We offer the following transportation solutions.
- For accounts that generate frequent truckload quantities of material, we can stage a van trailer on site for collection of material. When the trailer is full, we come out and swap it for an empty one.
- Don't have enough material to fill an entire truck? No problem! We can schedule you on our next milk run to your area.
- If you don't have the manpower or time to package material before your pickup, our driver can take care of it for you.
- All of our 26' box trucks are equipped with lift gates which make pickups at sites that are not equipped with docks or forklifts possible.
- We can come on site and offer staff training on stacking and packaging to promote safe-handing practices and the most efficient usage of truck space.
- Delivered loads are accepted. Dock time must be coordinated prior to delivery.
End-of-Life Processing
An electronic item is considered end-of-life (EOL) once it becomes non-functional and beyond economic repair, or once the technology becomes so outdated that the item is no longer eligible for resell. When EOL electronics are received at Synergy, they are demanufactured in one of two ways.
- Manual Disassembly - Items that contain hazardous components (glass, mercury bulbs, batteries) are disassembled by hand and the components are separated according to their scrap metal or plastic type.
- Mechanical Disassembly - Items that are determined safe for shredding are processed using our multi-million dollar in-house shredding and mechanical separation equipment. Using a series of shredders, magnets, eddy currents, color sorters and density sorters; an electronic item is sized to 1-2 inch pieces, and its scrap components are separated by base material (ie steel, plastic, aluminum, circuit board, etc).
No matter the method, you can rest assured that any EOL or destruction-only electronic item sent to Synergy Recycling will be demanufactured at our state-of-the-industry electronics recycling facility in Madison, NC. Synergy has invested heavily in shredding and mechanical separation equipment to make this possible. Low-grade material, which is very labor intensive to demanufacture by hand, is processed quickly and easily at our facility with virtually no human interaction. Our system creates some of the cleanest products in the industry. This makes us the processor of choice for several other electronics recyclers.
Destruction-Only Material
Synergy Recycling offers a certified and reliable option for destruction-only items. Whether it be proprietary equipment or recalled material, Synergy will ensure it is fully destroyed and responsibly recycled in our Madison, NC processing facility. We offer our clients a witnessed destruction service in which they visually observe the processing of their material by either being on-site or securely logging in to our remote camera server.
Why is this important?
Hazardous materials such as lead, mercury and cadmium exist within most electronic devices. If end-of-life electronics are placed in a landfill, over time those hazardous materials can leach into the soil and groundwater. Even worse is when these EOL electronics are shipped to countries that don't have the regulations in place to protect workers and the environment. If improperly handled, the processing of EOL electronics can create a hazard to those individuals doing the processing as well as the land, air and water in the surrounding environment.
Certified Data Destruction in a Secure Facility
Synergy Recycling's Madison facility is certified to R2:2013 which has strict standards for the destruction of data. The site is under 24/7 video surveillance monitoring. All data bearing material is stored in a locked part of the facility which is accessible only by authorized individuals.
You Choose the Method and the Standard
Data can be destroyed either by data wiping or by physical destruction. With data wiping, data is removed leaving the drive free of your information. The standard practice at Synergy Recycling is to wipe to NIST 800-88 standards, but wiping to Department of Defense (DOD) standards can be accommodated upon request. With physical destruction, your hard drive is shredded into one-inch pieces using in our in-house shredding and mechanical separation equipment, which generates scrap materials from your drive.
Certificate of Destruction
Upon request, Synergy Recycling will provide a Certificate of Destruction (COD) for your material. Material can be reported on a COD by count, by weight, by serial number or by other identifying information (asset tag, etc).
