Tri-R-Recycling Inc
P.O. Box 207, Southey, Saskatchewan, Canada
Tri-R-Recycling is a family owned and operated business run by Wayne and Cheryl Roske. The company was incorporated in 2009 and has had to develop numerous solutions to the problems associated with recycling plastic casing caps and steel. The company operates from its home base near Southey, Sk. where it is ideally located to do business in the Southern Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta oil patch. With a decade of experience in the oil industry, Wayne has managed to work his way up from a vacuum truck hauler to owner of Tri-R-Recycling.Tri-R-Recycling is currently expanding operations and is looking at a number of applications to integrate the recycling business into manufacturing. Wayne has explored the feasibility of producing fuel from plastics and is currently looking at marketing plastic boards that can be extruded from recycled HDPE.
Tri-R-Recycling is a family-owned and operated business and is located in a central location near Southey, Sask. Tri-R has been operating for the past five years and we are currently expanding our capacity and processing systems.Tri-R serves approximately 15%-20% of all working rigs in Southern Saskatchewan with services also extending into Manitoba and Alberta. The eventual goal of the company is to have a “significant” number of wells signed onto our recycling program.Numerous recycling possibilities are available and oil companies looking for a “green” solution can simply call up Tri-R and arrange for pickup services at very competitive rates.
In the recycling business capacity is important and Tri-R has approximately 300,000 kgs of HDPE on hand which will fuel the new ventures planned by the company. These include creating fuel out of recycled plastic and also manufacturing plastic building products.Recycled HDPE can be readily broken down and remade into plastic lumber. According to the California Integrated Waste and Management board, HDPE is excellent for decks, is available in many colors, and provides many advantages including resistance to rotting.
While the oil industry may have some public relations problems, scrap heaps around oil wells shouldn’t be one of them. Tri-R-Recycling helps solve this problem by providing recycling services for HDPE casing caps and drill lines. We also provide battery clean-up services and scrap metal removal.Caps and drill lines present a disposal issue for most wells and Tri-R has developed a recycling program for oil companies that will solve the problem of disposing of these items. HDPE is one of the most recycled plastics in the world, with numerous environmental benefits over other common plastics like PVC.
Disposal/Recyling:
- Casing Caps
- Drill Lines (must be cut to 4’)
- Shaker Screens and Scrap Metal
- Battery Clean-up services
The HDPE Recycling Industry
HDPE recycling is growing worldwide with approximately 50 million tons of recycling occurring each year. HDPE is commonly used in the production of plastic bottles, corrosion-resistant piping, geomembranes, and plastic lumber. HDPE is commonly recycled, and has the number '2' as its recycling symbol.HDPE is known for its large strength to density ratio. The density of high-density polyethylene can range from 0.93 to 0.97 g/cm3. Although the density of HDPE is only marginally higher than that of low-density polyethylene, HDPE has little branching, giving it stronger intermolecular forces and tensile strength than LDPE. The difference in strength exceeds the difference in density, giving HDPE a higher specific strength. It is also harder and more opaque and can withstand somewhat higher temperatures (120 °C/ 248 °F for short periods, 110 °C /230 °F continuously).High-density polyethylene, unlike polypropylene, cannot withstand normally required autoclaving conditions. The lack of branching is ensured by an appropriate choice of catalyst (e.g.,Ziegler-Natta catalysts) and reaction conditions.
Tri-R-Recycling is fully ENFORM COR certified.
Enform is the Certifying Partner of the COR program for the Canadian Oil and Gas Industry.Enform is steadfast in its dedication to the health and safety of the oil and gas industry and its commitment to the continuous improvement of the COR program. Enform COR program offerings are designed through a consultative process with oil and gas industry employers with the specific needs and risks of the industry in mind.Enform adds significant value to the COR, with a comprehensive, world-class package of COR program services.
Equipment and Capacity
With Tri-R’s expanded facilities, it now has the capacity to service most of the drilling rigs currently operating in the province. However, getting to this stage was not without its pitfalls.Equipment that was bought specifically for plastic recycling from other countries often failed and owner Wayne Roske had to work with local engineers and machine shops to get specific machines made to deal with problems encountered here.
Having a farming background helped Wayne overcome many of the challenges presented by the combined steel/HDPE casing caps. Numerous blade and die combinations were tried before efficient systems were put into place to deal with this particular problem. The plastic shredding, cleaning and grading systems were also developed to solve on-site problems. The capacity of these systems is now much higher than the current supply of casing caps.
