Dan-X Recycling Limited
64 Trider Cres, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada
DAN-X RECYCLING LIMITED (DAN-X), based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, was founded in 2009 by Mr. Dave Hall (President & CEO) and Mr. Dana Emmerson ( Vice President) to implement a service to recycle all mercury containing lamps, thermostats and other mercury containing devices. We are Nova Scotia’s first established mercury lamp recycling company. Our service is a unique set up whereby we supply special constructed cartons to safely contain lamps for shipments or to drop off at our recycling plant in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The lamps are then packed in special stocking bins for processing through our state of the art processing plant that will separate the phosphor powder, aluminum end caps and glass for reuse in other applications.
Our plant was purchased from Balcan Engineering based in the United Kingdom and is the first of its kind to be sold and set up in Canada, processing 2000 lamps per hour. This unit is designed to accept all types of mercury containing lamps, including the incandescent bulbs that are being manufactured for household use.
This business venture will put Nova Scotia first in this very important leadership role for recycling throughout Atlantic Canada.
With the high demand from local environmental agencies and groups, Dan-x Recycling’s aim is to help reduce the toxic and hazardous components that are getting into our atmosphere, and to lower power consumption.
Dan-X Recycling has had rapid growth since its inception, and is committed to being a leader as an environmental solutions company with future plans to expand its services to all the Maritime Provinces. As a final descriptive note, “Recycling is crucial for The Environment” and when Government puts final legislation in place to ban these products from entering our landfills, everyone will benefit from this much needed service dealing with household and commercial waste. This is certainly a mile stone for our company, and we anticipate significant growth for recycling of mercury lamps in the years to come.
Services
Dan-x Recycling is committed to offering its recycling service to all Nova Scotians, to insure the environment is being protected from mercury waste that is being captured in the lamps through our recycling program, from around the province.Dan-x Recycling has created specially designed four foot and eight foot cartons to place all lamps into, destine for recycling. The 4ft cartons hold 56 t-12 lamps or 130 t-8 lamps. The 8ft cartons hold 40 t-12 lamps or 96 t-8 lamps, as well as approximately 300 CFL bulbs and approximately 60 metal halide lamps. Each carton was designed to be managed and handled with the assurance that the lamps could be shipped or dropped off at our facility. If our services are accepted, cartons could be shipped to the desired sights through-out Nova Scotia, so lamps could be placed in for pick up or freighted back to our facility.
The department would be responsible to place the t-12 lamps in the cartons alone, and the t-8 lamps in another carton. This will eliminate counting of lamps that takes up valuable time and money. Each carton 4ft or 8ft have been designed to hold the established amounts of each style lamps.
The prices quoted will be honored for a 12 month time frame. Prices will then proceed on a month to month basis thereafter. Note: after the first 12 months, if no new contract has been signed by the Department or Dan-x Recycling, we reserve the right to increase the price to reflect the increase cost of inflation.
Residential
Dan-x Recycling is proud to offer a Residential Bulb Recycling Service. Any resident is able to visit the shop and recycle their old or unused bulbs in a designated area outside of our facility. This recycling service is run on the honour system – a price list is posted on the fence next to the designated recycling area. Simply drop off your bulbs, make your payment and we will take care of the rest.
