Eagle Enterprises Recycling,Inc
510 SE Industrial Ave, Galva, Illinois, United States
Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. is the premier recycling services provider and processor in West-Central Illinois. Started in 1993, we currently offer residential curbside, municipal, commercial, and industrial recycling services in all or part of Henry, Bureau, Rock Island, Mercer, Knox, Stark, Peoria, Woodford, Marshall, Fulton, and Warren Counties. In 2010, we collected or received 13.8 MILLION pounds of material. Today, we collect and/or process between 500 and 700 tons of recyclables every month and continue to increase our volume.
Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. was founded in 1993 by Paul and Jacqueline Jaquet to process old newspaper into animal bedding for farmers. Over the next 20 years, the business has evolved and grown to be a leader in recycling services, which now employs 17 full time people, all based out of our Galva, Illinois Material Recovery Facility (MRF).We were one of the earliest adopters of single-stream curbside recycling in the Mid-west, developing our own sorting process in 1997. Today, we collect and/or process between 500 and 700 tons of recyclables every month and continue to increase our volume. Our list of accepted materials is the most extensive of any program in the area.Every two weeks, Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. collects curbside recycling in 21 different communities and over 20 subdivisions or communities on private subscription service, as well as receiving the material from 5 other communities collected by other haulers or the municipality. When the trucks arrive in Galva at the MRF, they are unloaded onto the tipping floor and the recyclables are pushed into a pile, ready for the sorting line. A skid-steer loader operator moves the recyclables from the pile to the sorting line. On the first stage of the sorting line, Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. employees remove cardboard, newspaper, magazines, paperback and hard-backed books, office paper, and plastic bags. During the second stage process, employees remove plastics, glass, aluminum foil, and any paper that may have been missed during the first stage. Finally, the remaining material passes under a cross-belt magnet to remove steel and tin cans and an eddy current separator removes aluminum cans from trash. After materials are sorted, they are baled and shipped to mills for processing into new materials.
Recycling and Garbage Changes Ring in the New Year
Beginning January 3rd, Eagle Enterprises Recycling Inc. will begin garbage collection service in the City of Galva. Collection days will not change, with residences North of the railroad tracks picked up on Monday and residences South of the railroad tracks picked up on Wednesday unless there is a holiday (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, and Christmas).
Residents will be limited to two 33-gallon bags or cans, not to exceed 50 pounds per bag or can, of trash per week. If a resident has more than the allowed limit, you will need an Extra Bag Sticker affixed to each additional bag or can. Extra Bag Stickers will cost $2.00 per sticker and will be available for purchase at City Hall, Galva Super Market, Hathaway’s True Value, and the Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. office. Any extra bag or can placed at the curb without a sticker will be picked up and billed to your residence on your City water bill at a rate of $2.50 per extra bag or can.
Bags or cans weighing over 50 pounds and large items, such as appliances, mattresses, and furniture, will be collected but must have a Large Item Sticker affixed to each large item. Large Item Stickers will cost $7.50 each and will be available at the same locations as the Extra Bag Stickers. Any large item left at the curb without a Large Item Sticker affixed will be picked up and billed on your City water bill at a rate of $8.50 per item.
New this year, residents will be able to have their electronics (computers, monitors, stereos, VCRs, DVD players, video game systems, Christmas lights, and televisions, etc) picked up at the curb with a Large Item Sticker affixed. By law, electronics are NOT allowed in your regular trash. With this program, Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. will bring a separate truck out to pick up any electronics left at the curb for recycling. Electronics left at the curb without a Large Item Sticker attached, will still be collected and billed to your City water bill at the $8.50 rate. Residents will still be able to take electronics to Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. during regular business hours (6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturdays). There is no cost for electronics dropped off at Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc.
Also new this year will be that every residence which does not currently have a recycling cart will be receiving a 64-gallon cart. Recycling collections will be completed every other week. If a resident needs more recycling capacity, you may request a larger or additional recycling cart. There is no limit on how much you recycle, and no charge for additional containers. To request a larger or additional cart, call Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. at 932-2936 or e-mail info@eerecycling.com.
For any resident who might be interested, Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. will have a limited supply of garbage totes available for rent. For more information on these rental totes, call the above numbers. If a resident currently has a garbage can larger than 33-gallon which you would like to continue using, you may do so, provided the garbage inside is in bags that do not exceed 33-gallon or 50 pounds and there are not more than 2 bags.
This program was designed by Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. as a hybrid of several different programs found in other municipalities throughout the United States. It is designed to encourage diversion of recoverable materials out of the waste stream for reuse and recycling. It also rewards residents who put less trash on the curb by keeping their costs lower. Overall, residents will have a savings of over $2.00 per household per month versus other options presented to the City. And with this new contract, the City will no longer be subsidizing the fees paid to the haulers as they have been in the current contracts, which means between $1,500 and $2,000 per month will be available for other city projects and maintenance.
So how do recycling, Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. and the Stewardship Partners program fit in?
Recycling is Stewardship. Vast resources have been invested to bring different materials and products to your facility. These materials are not worn out. They still have useful life. Recycling is a way these materials are recovered from the waste stream and make their journey again. Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. is a leader in the responsible recovery of recyclable materials from the waste stream. With our years of experience in collection and processing of recyclables, you can be assured that what we collect is recovered. When your company becomes a Stewardship Partner, you get the benefits of our years of experience, our extensive list of accepted materials, and the support of our knowledgeable staff.
We start the program with an on-site waste review. A member of our staff will come to your business, and “dumpster dive” to identify what you are sending to the landfill that can be recovered. We will also need to know what frequency of collection you receive (daily, twice weekly, weekly, bi-weekly, etc.). With this information, we are then able to recommend the proper size of container and frequency of our service.
Then, at your option, Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. will conduct an annual waste review at no additional cost to you. Business changes, suppliers change, and the range of accepted materials changes as technology improves. This annual review is an opportunity for us to take another look at what you are generating and identify new materials that can be recycled versus land filled.
