Hazardous waste

Hazardous waste is waste that poses immediate or long-term threats to public health or to the environment. Hazardous wastes can be liquids, solids, gases or sludges. It is important to review the labels of items before disposing of them. If the labels contain any of these words: CAUTION, WARNING, DANGER, or POISON, they could potentially contain hazardous materials, which need to be disposed of properly. It is important to remember not to throw them in the garbage or pour them into the sewer, onto the ground or into your septic tank.

Recycling

Recycling is the process of taking a product at the end of its useful life and using all or part of it again to make another product. The three arrows of the internationally recognized recycling logo are representative of the steps it takes to recycle, from re-manufacture to resale. Two of the most common misconceptions about recycling is that it is too much work and that one person won't make that big of a difference. The truth is, that Troje Trash makes it incredibly easy using our '2 Sort System'.

Being Green

• Turn down the thermostat – most households use 50-70% of their energy budgets on heating and cooling.
• Sign up for online bill payments – save on paper, stamps and late fees!
• Turn your computers off at night or use a sleep timer on your TV. This saves wear on your hardware and also about $90 a year by shutting down at night.
• Use cold water on your laundry, most loads don't need hot water anyway.
• Print two sided when possible.
• Stop idling your car – just 10 seconds of idling uses more gas than starting your car.
• Switch to fluorescent bulbs.
• Use a reusable bottle for water instead of buying bottled water.
• Use services to opt out of junk mail and paper phone books.
• Use reusable bags since you can't recycle plastic bags.
• Use rechargeable batteries.

Residential Recycling

Troje’s Trash has recycling containers to fit any size of recycling needs. We partner with Eureka! Recycling, a zero-waste and nonprofit organization.Troje's is moving toward single-stream recycling. For now, please place paper and cardboard recycling on top of the mixed plastic, metal and glass containers in your cart, to help us reclaim as much material as possible in the recycling process! If your recycling mixes in the cart, don't worry: we will still pick it up.
