Moscow Recycling (MR) is a public/private partnership between the City of Moscow and Latah Sanitation. Services include recycling collection for residential and commercial customers. MR also operates the recycling center, located south of Rosauer’s, which includes recycling and yard waste drop-off. Over 30 different commodities are accepted at the center
It's all about a greener community and a less consumer-oriented future. There's much to be done. Landfills are filling up, and it's up to us to promote and practice a more sustainable lifestyle. RECYCLING: COLLECTIONS
Single stream roll carts will be dispersed during the holidays and through the month of January. Collection will start on February 1, 2016. Please do not put your new carts out until the week of February 1 as it will not be collected.
You will also receive a packette of information with your roll cart indicating what you will and will not be able to recycle, a magnetic calendar, as recycling collection is every other week and an introductory sheet that should answer any questions you may have regarding the program.
You’ll be able to recycle items like empty and rinsed plastic, foil, aluminum and tin, newspaper, junk mail, milk and soup cartons, cardboard and more. We will not be recycling glass, food, clothing, electronics or styrofoam. Glass can be brought to Moscow Recycling’s 24/7 Public Sorting Area or to the old Gilbert Auto site located at the corner of Blaine and the Troy highway.
Commercial
Collection services are provided for cardboard at your business location. A collection bin is provided and the cost for this service is $10.50 per collection.
EVENT RECYCLING
Events on City Property
For events held on city property with 50 or more people, the City of Moscow requires the use of recycling containers. Containers are available at Moscow Recycling for no charge. Please call ahead to schedule. A $50 deposit is required by the City of Moscow Parks and Rec, and is refunded upon return of recycling containers.
General Events
If you are having a large party or gathering or sponsoring an event in Latah County, Moscow Recycling has various containers for recycling at no charge. Depending on your needs, we can accept plastic bottles, cans, paper products and with enough lead time, food residuals composting. The Moscow Renaissance Fair achieves 90% diversion of the waste they produce by composting and recycling.
Yard Waste
Yard waste is run through Latah Sanitation’s grinder and then composted. Certain materials can not be run through the grinder such as sod, stumps and any material larger than 6 inches in diameter. These materials need to be brought to the demolition area. Please be sure to remove plastic bags as they are not compostable and can bind up in the grinder. Materials accepted include:
CLEARWATER COMPOSTING
Each vehicle entering the facility will need to weigh in and out and license plates will be recorded. This is to provide the City of Lewiston with accurate numbers on materials received.
Landscape contractors will be required to pay a fee. Please contact Clearwater Composting for details.
Out of county residents will be required to pay a fee of $43.75/ton. For loads under 227 lbs, there will be a minimum fee of $5.
Service for Nez Perce County residents is free except for those living in Culdesac and Lapwai who are required to pay the out of county fee.
Service for Clarkston residents is free.
