Morris Gudelman started the company in 1939. He handled scrap paper, iron and other metal, and rags in the company's original location on Woodruff Avenue near Cherry Street. The company was then called State Iron and Metal Co. Morris's nephew, Norman Gudelman, immigrated to the United States from Israel and joined his uncle in the company in 1958. Three years later, he and the late Ralph Worshtil bought the company and moved it to the present location on Central Avenue.

Barry Gudelman, Norman's son and the current President, and Mr. Segall, the Vice President, said the company has gone through a number of transformations. The central recycling items during each transition included paper, wastepaper, and such nonferrous metals as copper, brass, and aluminum. Business is a mix of drive-up customers unloading their pop cans to industrial and commercial firms that hire State Paper to haul away tons of office waste.

Paper Recycling

SP&M handles all grades of recovered paper, including old corrugated containers, office papers, old newspapers and printers' mix. We are a growing force in the paper recycling industry, involved in collecting, packaging, recycling and marketing tons of recovered paper each month.We specialize in collecting, sorting & processing of paper from schools, offices, printers, retailers and manufacturers. Purchase of paper from outside sources, and pick-up & delivery with appointment schedules.

Metal Recycling

After driving into our facility, and depending on your contents, you may be asked to place/drive your vehicle onto our digital scale. After being weighed, you will be directed to the proper area in which to unload your vehicle. You then my be asked again to cross the scale to determine final product weight. Pricing is given on a per pound basis and calculated in front of you.

Our service is simple, fast and convenient. Later on we will begin the sorting and processing stages. Depending on the type of metal you brought in it may need to be stripped, chopped or cut to get it down to its basic state. After we have accumulate enough material, the product is either bailed or boxed and shipped to foundries where it can be melted down and reformed.

Our live loading services are able to pick up both loose and baled material. Our roll-off services, on the other hand, are able to delivered and picked up according to your specifications. Our systems come in 20, 30, and 40 yard capacities and are loaded at ground level, so no heavy, extra equipment will be needed. These can be considered extremely convenient as they can be placed very close to the source needed.

By now you have probably heard about the Going Green movement. This movement encompasses everything from keeping our water, air, and land clean to using our natural resources wisely, to recycling and reducing pollution. More and more products are being made with recycled materials, and companies are becoming more aware of eco-friendly methods.

With every new day strides are being made, laws are being passed and ideas are being generated that deal with environmentalism, and here at The State Paper & Metal Company, we genuinely want to provide a more eco-friendly workplace, and incorporate it into our business mission and practice.

Secure Destruction

AccuShred offers secure document destruction. We will place our secure and specially designed containers at your company, and our trained and uniformed personnel will service the containers. There will be no access to your confidential materials while in transit to our secure shredding facility. And the containers will not be unlocked until in our secure shredding facility.

Once in the shredding facility the containers will be unlocked and the contents will be destroyed in a timely manner. We use a premium, high-speed industrial shredder to destroy a variety of materials including: binders, x-rays, computer disks, videotapes, CDs, an DVD's.

AccuShred's location has closed-circuit video monitoring of all shredding, as well as a 90-day library so that companies know their paperwork has been destroyed. All employees must undergo background checks and drug tests to make sure there are no felons handling the documents.
