Why ERI?
Electronic Recyclers International is the largest electronic waste company in the United States, and the only true nationwide e-waste solution, with our eight facilities servicing every zip code in the US. At ERI, we don’t view ourselves as one of the solutions to e-waste, we view ourselves as the only solution.
Capabilities
ERI has the largest, most technologically advanced electronic waste shredders in the world, each one of which is capable of shredding 30,000 pounds of e-waste per hour. Strategically located throughout the United States, ERI shredders and facilities process millions of pounds of e-waste each month.ERI developed a proprietary glass cleaning process, which is one of the only processes in the world to remove mercury and lead from CRT glass. Through this process, ERI is able to safely and responsibly recycle materials that other recyclers simply cannot.
Certifications
ERI is the first electronic waste company to be dually certified by both R2 and e-Stewards standards. This means everything ERI does - from the moment a device enters our facilities all the way to our downstream partners - is environmentally friendly and sustainable.Data security is a #1 priority for ERI, so much so that all data is destroyed to Department of Defense standards. Whether the item was used for government, business or personal use, every item at ERI is wiped of 100% of the data on that device. ERI also offers additional services such as serialization, a certificate of recycling/data destruction, video surveillance feeds and on-site shredding to help give clients peace of mind that their data has been destroyed and sensitive information remains safe.
E-Waste Solutions
E-waste is the fastest-growing solid waste stream, with between 20 and 50 million metric tons of electronic devices being disposed of each year worldwide. As the rate of innovation continues to increase and the lifespan of electronic devices – laptops, desktops, cell phones, TVs, tablets and more – shortens, this number is only expected to grow. However, with just 12.5 percent of e-waste being recycled, the possibility for environmental harm and data security risks are amplified.Electronic Recyclers International is the only national e-waste solution. We are able to handle any volume of electronic devices – from a single smartphone to millions of pounds worth of gadgets – thanks to our industry-leading technology and innovative community programs.
When you send any device to an ERI facility, it is assigned a serial number, enabling you and ERI to monitor the device through its end-of-lifecycle using our proprietary MyTrackTech software. All devices are then wiped of data in accordance with Department of Defense and National Institute of Standards and Technology protocol, guaranteeing 100 percent data destruction.Functioning devices or parts are repurposed for refurbishment or reuse, while obsolete devices are sent to ERI’s state-of-the-art shredders to be broken into raw commodities and sent to our downstream partners. As the first e-waste recycler to be dual-certified by e-Stewards and R2, ERI is committed to ensuring no part of your device ends up in a landfill or is exported abroad, and holds it partners to the same standards.ERI is dedicated to working with you to make sure your electronic devices are responsibly recycled and your sensitive data remains secure.
Shredding
Shredding documents containing sensitive information has been common practice in data security for decades. However, as society moves to a more digitized existence both in and out of the office, isn't it time the same safety precautions and protections were extended to electronic devices? In just one GB of data, the equivalent of 675,000 pages of information can be stored, rendering it little surprise that an increasing number of organizations and businesses are mandating hard drive shredding.Electronic Recyclers International operates the world's largest and most sophisticated shredders. Custom-designed for ERI, our state-of-the-art shredders are capable of handling over 30,000 pounds of e-waste per hour.ERI has the largest e-waste shredders in the world, capable of shredding over 30,000 pounds of e-waste per hour!
ERI is one of the only e-waste recyclers in the world that utilizes a two-step shredding process. First, your electronic devices are broken down into manageable pieces. Then, they are finely shredded to destroy data and allow our recycling technicians to sort them into raw commodities, such as metal and plastics, which are sent straight to our downstream partners to be repurposed, recycled or reused. This ensures that 100 percent of your device is recycled and never ends up in a landfill. The shredding process itself was designed by ERI to reflect its commitment to protecting the health of the environment and our recycling technicians. ERI's shredders feature built-in air filtration systems that guarantee the shredding process is safe for the surrounding community, employees and the environment. With the number of electronic devices in circulation growing at a rapid rate, hackers and data thefts are increasingly targeting improperly disposed of hardware. Shredding e-waste, though, guarantees complete data destruction and your security.
