Mississippi River Pulp
30 Majorca Road , Natchez, Mississippi, United States
Mississippi River Pulp produces all grades of white recycled fiber including our food grade that meets U.S. purity requirements.
The mill opened in 1991, and, under new ownership, is entering into a third decade of innovation, committed to helping socially conscious companies including companies that sell or use paper products deemed food-touch safe by providing a greener option for their product needs.
Our mill recovers wastepaper from a variety of sources throughout the United States. Through our deinking, screening and cleaning processes, we turn these raw materials into premium white deinked pulp. We have the only process that can use all non-brown grades of recovered fiber to produce a product that meets U.S. food and beverage requirements. We can accommodate many different grade-level needs, as we produce customized solutions for our customers from lower-brightness, tissue-type grades, to high-end premium grades.
The basics, in brief
OUR STELLAR REPUTATION.
We have earned a reputation for versatile processes and high-quality products. We are known for flexibility, reliability and willingness to collaborate with our partners – not only with our customers but also with our vendors, employees and surrounding communities.
OUR SCREENING AND QUALITY-CONTROL PROCESSES.
We are recognized as one of the most aggressive recycled pulp producers in the use of fine screening for removing contaminants. We run regular daily testing on all final products, and food-grade pulp is consistently tested by our quality-control team to ensure that it continues to meet U.S. food and beverage requirements. The pulp is also tested at various stages in the manufacturing process to ensure a quality final product. We are committed to providing clean recycled pulp.
MEETS U.S. PURITY REQUIREMENTS.
We are the only recycled pulp producer that meets U.S. food and beverage requirements using all non-brown grades of recovered fiber to produce a food-grade product. This effort took four years of rigorous testing, the development and installation of our own patented process and much dialog with the regulatory authorities. We provide the only environmentally sound content alternative to single-use paper products that now consist solely of either virgin pulp or Styrofoam.
The environmentally sound choice
We help socially conscious companies provide end-to-end recycled, recyclable products, including companies that sell or use paper products deemed food-touch safe. We provide the only environmentally sound content alternative to single-use paper products that now consist solely of either virgin pulp or Styrofoam.
We produce all grades of high-quality white recycled fiber:
- Food and beverage
- Printing and writing (coated and uncoated)
- Packaging, board and tissue
Why recycling makes sense
- It saves trees because it reduces demand for wood. By extending the overall fiber supply, paper recycling can help maintain our natural forests that support wildlife habitats and preserve biodiversity.
- It conserves resources and generates less pollution during manufacturing, because the fibers have already been processed once. Making paper from used paper is generally a cleaner and more efficient process, since much of the work of extracting and bleaching the fibers has already been done. That means less total energy, water, and chemical use, and lower releases of air and water pollutants.
- In the landfill, where 80% of discarded paper ends up, the decomposition of paper produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas with 21 times the heat-trapping power of CO2 that contributes to global climate change. The U.S. EPA cites municipal landfills as the single largest source of methane emissions to the atmosphere, and has identified the decomposition of paper as among the most significant sources of landfill methane. Paper recycling recovers used paper from the waste stream, directly reducing the amount of paper landfilled and, therefore, reducing emissions of methane and other pollutants from landfills.
- It reduces solid waste, because it diverts usable paper from the waste stream. Each time paper is diverted from the waste stream and used to make recycled paper, there is a direct reduction in solid waste. Think of it this way - if you use a piece of paper once, then erase and use it again before throwing it away, you create less waste than if you used two pieces of paper and threw them both away. Similarly, even if a sheet of recycled paper is eventually landfilled, the recycling process still reduces the total amount of paper landfilled.
