Data Sanitization
Technology Conservation Group is member of NAID (National Association of Information Destruction), an international, non-profit trade association of the information destruction industry. NAID’s mission is to educate business, industry and government of the importance of destroying discarded information and the value of contract destruction services.
With an ever-increasing awareness of privacy issues surrounding personal and business information customers are becoming more concerned about how their material is handled. They are seeking assurances that their confidential and proprietary information is protected, and rightly so. Information security is extremely important to businesses as their continued existence is dependent upon their confidential data and intellectual property - proprietary processes, designs, patents, etc. – remaining confidential.
Almost all electronic devices, large or small, are capable of storing data. Information security regulations such as HIPAA, HITECH, Sarbanes-Oxley, Gramm-Leach Bliley, FISMA and FACTA hold companies responsible for protecting employee and customer information, with serious legal and monetary consequences for a security breach. Because TCG takes the security of your information seriously we use erasure tools that securely erase all data written to any data-containing storage devices. The benefit of these tools is that they meet NIST 800:88 “purge and clear” specifications, exceeding the requirements of the old DOD standard, while still allowing redeployment of hard drives if a customer chooses remarketing to maximize value.
After performing the requisite wiping functions - prequalification, test, repair and wipe - the system generates certificate files for verification of erasure and generates a report detailing pass/fail. All hard drives failing the erasure process will be physically destroyed. We also offer degaussing as a method of destroying information on various types of magnetic storage media.
Our information destruction department is segregated by access-controlled entry points limited to specific employees with secure entry by HID badge or biometrics. All media retained for data erasure is stored in separate bins by customer order number. This area is under 24-hr video surveillance with the archive video retained for a rolling 3 month period.
A Certificate of Information Destruction will be provided upon request.
On-Site Services
Many clients prefer to be present when their data-containing media is destroyed, but it’s not always feasible for them to travel to our facilities due to time or budgetary constraints. For this reason TCG offers on-site data destruction within the confines of the customer’s property using a self-contained shredding unit. This not only eliminates chain-of-custody concerns but since the entire process is recorded the client is presented with a DVD containing a video of the destruction of the material, giving them peace of mind.
An on-board database allows the capture of serial numbers (if required), as well as quantity and/or weight for non-serialized material. As with all of TCG’s e-scrap destruction services, a Certificate of Destruction will be provided upon request.
Destruction
Physical destruction by shredding achieves two objectives: ensures that confidential information is rendered totally inaccessible, and converts the material to a form suitable for processing by final downstream vendors.
Facility-Based Destruction
Equipment upgrades and advances in technology for electronic equipment such as desktop and laptop computers, printers, copiers, cell phones, etc. has created a steadily increasing quantity of obsolete equipment. To accommodate the high volume, and larger pieces of equipment, TCG has state-of-the-art equipment that will shred whole units into1 ¼” pieces then separate the output into plastics, ferrous, non-ferrous, and precious metals. These base materials are then sent to audited downstream vendors for final processing or refining. If scheduled in advance, the customer may visit our facility to personally witness the destruction process and, if requested, receive a DVD recording upon completion of the shredding process. A Certificate of Destruction will be provided upon request.
On-Site Destruction
As a convenience to our clients, TCG offers on-site media destruction. A self-contained mobile destruction unit with an on-board generator arrives at the desired location, needing only a place to park. Many types of media may be destroyed in this way– hard drives, cell phones, PDAs, etc. so long as they do not exceed 2 inches of thickness.
As with all of our e-scrap services, a Certificate of Destruction will be provided upon request. A DVD recording of the process will be presented upon completion of the destruction. Material is recorded by serial number (if applicable) along with a piece count or weight for non-serialized material.
Environmental Commitment
Our Corporate environmental, health, and safety office conducts on-going environmental, health, and safety compliance project management and internal auditing of all TCG facilities world-wide. As one of the very few electronics recycling firms with a full time global EHS staff, TCG has positioned itself to become a world leader in environmentally-sound electronics recycling.
From lead to mercury, it's no secret that there are a lot of ecologically damaging elements in today's electronics. As the rate of electronic obsolescence accelerates, landfill and pollution problems increase. But simply recycling is not the answer. Many recyclers use processes that do not allow for full recovery of all damaging or valuable elements, creating a negative impact on both the earth and your bottom line.
At TCG, we believe in taking extraordinary care to recycle, recover and reuse every part of what's sent to us. In fact, virtually 100% of our intake is indeed recycled, recovered or reused, with less than one percent - all biodegradable - sent to the landfill. With this level of commitment it should come as no surprise that we are certified to R2/RIOS and ISO 14001:2004, gold standards in Environmental Management Systems. TCG meets or exceeds all local, regional, national and international regulations at our many locations around the globe.
One Source, One Solution
Finding all the answers you need with one call. . .
In order to remain competitive in the marketplace, every industry – from financial institutions to health care – must monitor business trends and strive to stay on the cutting edge of technology. For this reason new hardware and software is being implemented every day driving the need for efficient, cost-effective asset management programs.
Technology Conservation Group handles excess, obsolete and retired electronics from a variety of sources. We offer a wide variety of standalone or bundled programs structured around the client’s requirements. As a Certified Electronics Recycler® we ensure 100% proper environmental disposal using only audited downstream vendors. TCG also helps to secure and protect our clients by designing programs that meet or exceed the standards required by federal information protection acts such as Gramm Leach Bliley, Sarbanes Oxley, FACTA, HIPAA and FISMA.
TCG’s primary goal is preventing the disposal of electronic waste through responsible recycling initiatives.
Electronics Recycling
End-of-life IT disposal can have a significant impact on a business and its overall reputation. In a world where data security and “being green” have become operational norms, there has never been a more critical need for a true business partner focused on the proper disposition of an organization’s electronic waste.
As a total recycler of waste stream commodities we work closely with OEMs, contract manufacturers, corporations, retailers, service providers and system integrators to eliminate waste while providing maximum value for retired and unused technology such as:
- Enterprise infrastructure technology (servers, storage, etc.)
- Corporate retired and/or unused assets (desktops, laptops, monitors, peripherals, etc.)
- Consumer electronics (set-top-boxes, gaming systems, etc.)
- Healthcare (medical & life science electronic devices)
- Military electronics (for destruction) Managed home devices (alarm panels, sound systems, remote controls, etc.)
- Manufacturing (control panels, excess/obsolete components, floor returns, etc.)
- Telecommunications (modems, smart phones, etc.)
