Cougle's Recycling, Inc
1000 SOUTH 4TH STREET, , Hamburg, Pennsylvania, United States
We were established in the World War II era, at a time when goods needed to be used as efficiently and fully as possible. A time when reuse and recycling were not only beneficial but necessary. Charles Cougle began a door-to-door pickup service. He toted a small scale on the back of his personal truck to collect newspapers and corrugated from households. He would then deliver the materials in his own truck to a local mill.
As time passed, the mill would no longer accept such small quantities of material; they required the material to be baled. When faced with either ending his new sprouting business or making the needed adjustments, Charles purchased a baler and began to compact the material and delivered truck loads of bales to the mill. He used a four car garage located on his land to house the baler, but in time to come he would grow out of the facility and need to construct a larger building in which he could store his growing quantity of material and bales. The entire structure was built by hand-formed blocks. He used a hand truck and simple block and tackle to load the bales onto his vehicle.
We assist customers with setting up a cost effective, viable program that will enable them to recycle the largest amount of material possible, while keeping in mind the possible space constraints and logistics of each individual operation.

Every day Americans throw away 44 million newspapers. That's equivalent to dumping 500,000 trees into landfills each week
Recyclable Paper Products make up approximately 40% of trash in America.
Americans throw out about 85% of the office paper used. That's enough office and writing paper annually to build a wall twelve feet high, stretching from New York City of Los Angeles.
Quick Facts
Percent of the world's annual wood harvest used for the production of paper products - 37%
Yearly amount of trees cut down to provide raw material for American paper pulp mills - 900 million
Amount of trees taken to produce the Sunday edition of the New York Times - 75,000
Recycling a stack of newspapers only 3 foot high - saved one tree. One tree alone can filter 60 pounds of pollutants from the air.
Annually, 27 million acres of tropical rainforest are destroyed (that's an area the size of Ohio). That translates to 74,000 acres per day, 3,000 acres per hour, and 50 acres per minute.
