Shine Bros. Corp. of Minn
520 East Gateway Drive, West Concord, Minnesota, United States
In 2002, Shine Bros. Corp. celebrated 100 years of business. To be in business as long as we have, a company must have a dedication and desire to serve their customers as well as the foresight to change with the times. Shine Bros. Corp. utilizes employees' suggestions and ideas as well and tried and true policies and methods dating back to the very first days of business.
Shine Bros. Corp. has grown from a trader of furs, metals, pots and pans to a large international company processing and shipping tons of scrap metal material each day.
We value and appreciate all of our customers, including our 'everyday' scrap trade, the farmers, dealers and our industrial accounts.
Our hours are 7 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. The iron yard is open through the lunch hour from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. We do NOT receive metals over the lunch hour.
Shine Bros. Corp. was formed in 1902 by Toby Shine's Grandfather Sam and Uncle Harry. Toby's father, Ben joined the business in 1929 and Toby took over reins in 1960.
Russian Immigrants Sam and Harry Shine began a new life in Chicago, IL but heard Iowa held great opportunities. In 1902, they took a train as far as their money would allow them. The brothers settled in Spencer, Iowa, opened a shop on Grand Avenue and started calling from farm house to farm house in a horse drawn wagon, peddling and trading anything of value - pots and pans, feathers, hides, furs, wool, and scrap metal.
Ben Shine was born in 1908. After serving time in the service, he returned to Spencer and purchased the family business from Sam and Harry. Later, Ben moved the business from Grand Avenue and started developing the current 38 acre site.
Toby Shine, current owner and President of the corporation joined Shine Bros. Corp. full time in 1960. Around 1965, the company stopped handling hides and by the end of the 1970s phased out its large wool business.
In the mid 1980s, an important decision was made about the company's direction. To stay competitive in the business it was decided wire chopping was the way to go. Today two chopping lines are in place.
The automobile shredder was installed in 2005.
Shine Bros. Corp. purchases, recycles and sells numerous products, both ferrous and non-ferrous.
Two of our specialties include wire chopping and auto shredding.
We are constantly upgrading and adding to our equipment. The philosophy is that better equipment creates easier, safer and better jobs for our employees. At the same time, better equipment enables the company to process material faster, with a higher recovery, allowing us to deliver the best product and service possible for our customers and suppliers.
