Designed Alloys produces certified alloys in 21-lb ingots in our state-of-the-art melt shop that includes twin 6-ton Coreless Induction Furnaces and a 5-ton Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) refining vessel. Our fully-equipped lab includes a Panalytical Axios-Max Metals XRF Spectrometer, as well as Leco CS230 and TC500 units, which provide the assurance that our products meet specifications.
Designed Alloys will melt your material in one of our twin 6-ton Coreless Induction Furnaces and cast it into 21-lb ingots. Further refinement can be achieved via our 5-ton Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) refining vessel. If the material you submit does not meet your desired chemical specifications, we can make the proper additions to produce certified ingots that hit the target.
TOLL MELTING FOR SCRAP CONSOLIDATION
Designed Alloys can melt your scrap material, cast it into ingot form and provide an analysis as to its exact chemistry. We can also make additions to match a specification and/or further refine via AOD. Please call us at 423-752-7360 to discuss consolidation of your scrap material.
SCRAP PROCESSING

LAB ANALYSIS
To arrange for analysis of your samples, pleasecall us at 423-752-7360. We have all of the standard metals lab equipment as well as the following:
- Panalytical Axios-Max Metals XRF Spectrometer – used for the most demanding XRF analyses from high precision metals analysis to accurate trace metals determination. This unit provides consistent high-quality data across the full elemental range from Na #11 (Sodium) through U #92 (Uranium), in concentrations ranging from mg/kg to 100 wt%.
- Leco CS230 – capable of analyzing carbon and sulfur content in metals from 4ppm to 3.5% carbon and 4ppm to 0.4% sulfur.
- Leco TC500 – capable of analyzing Nitrogen and Oxygen content in metals from 0.5ppm to 0.2% oxygen and 0.5ppm to 3.0% nitrogen with precision of 0.25ppm or 0.5% RSD whichever is greater.
UNACCEPTABLE MATERIAL
- Excessive dirt, oil, or non-metallic material
- Closed containers or containers with liquid
- Heat exchangers/condenser units
- Containers which contain residues of corrosive, toxic, EPA, or DOT-defined hazardous material
- Mill grades containing non-ferric metals such as copper, tin, lead, etc.
- Any metals containing radioactive materials
