Stainless Steel Information
Unlike regular steel, stainless steel does not stain, rust, or corrode. In the aviation industry, stainless steel is used for its corrosion resistant quality. Like all metal alloys there are different grades of stainless steel available, some of which are discussed below:

321 Stainless Steel

Type 321 Stainless Steel is similar to 304 Stainless Steel. The difference lies in the titanium content, which is five times that of the carbon content. This grade is very useful because of its insensitivity in nature to the intergranular corrosion that occurs when heated within 425-850oC of the carbide precipitation range. 321 Stainless Steel is used for products that may be exposed to temperatures greater than 900 degrees Celsius, and are combined with a resistance of scaling and high strength, which assists in avoiding any kind of deterioration to the product.

321 Stainless Steel This grade is also modified and made into 321H stainless steel with a higher carbon content to provide more strength. However, it should be kept in mind that 321 Stainless Steel does not transfer itself well across a heat temperature arc and is therefore not considered suitable for activities like welding. For this, Stainless Steel with a grade of 347 is used, which consists of Niobium to provide the stabilisation of heat more quickly. This can be used to weld 321 stainless steel. Unfortunately, Grade 321 cannot be polished very well and is not good for aesthetic purposes.
