Leder Bros

Our metal recycling company had its start in 1913 when Abe Leder began collecting and selling scrap metal and used equipment. As time went on, the company grew and eventually Abe’s two sons joined the operation. Morton and Leonard Leder focused on the big picture and purchased a processing facility to handle the increased demand for their services. Under the current management of family members Mark Leder and Isaac Einisman, Leder Brothers Metal continues to provide superior service by investing in the latest technology and the proper environmental safeguards to meet the needs of their retail, industrial and commercial customers. Today these two industry professionals eagerly await the opportunity to assist you with your scrap metal recycling inquiries. As the grandson of Abe Leder who founded Leder Brothers in 1913, and son of Morton Leder, who created the first physical location with Mark’s uncle Leonard Leder. Mark has been surrounded by the scrap metal business since childhood. He started working at the business at age 13 and then joined the company as the next generation to be involved in the family business. In 1984, Mark Leder and Isaac Einisman purchased the company and became the co-owners of our Minnesota leading scrap metal collection and recycling company.Morton and Leonard Leder’s cousin, Isaac Einisman, moved to the Twin Cities in the 1970s from his home in Chile and made a transition from his background in clothing and textiles into the scrap metal business, perfecting his English at the same time. In joining Mark in the purchase of the family business, he became a partner in the thriving Twin Cities scrap metal recycling company. As the Spanish-speaking population of Minnesota has grown, Isaac’s fluency in Spanish became very useful.

Recycling metals has a long history in the United States. During World War II, a strong scrap metal recycling effort played a major role, as many people still remember. Today, scrap collection and recycling is a major industrial source for a wide variety of raw materials. The value of most metal scrap is high because recycling is far less expensive than the cost of mining ore and converting that ore to useful materials for manufacturing. In the 21st Century metal recycling is an international business, with scrap metal flowing across the world for reprocessing into the products we purchase.
Leder Brothers Metal Company was created in 1913 by Abe Leder, the grandfather of Mark Leder, one of the current co-owners, along with Isaac Einisman, another family member. Today, our company plays a major role in the metal recycling industry in the Minneapolis St. Paul metro area. We buy scrap metals of all kinds from a wide range of customers ranging from individual scrap haulers to industrial firms throughout Minnesota and surrounding states. At our facility, we carefully analyze all scrap, then grade it, sort it, and make it ready for sale to our wholesale buyers, both in the United States and internationally. Our Minnesota metal recycling company is conveniently located at 3240 Snelling Avenue South, Minneapolis MN 55406. It is just south of Lake Street, between Hiawatha Avenue and Minnehaha Avenue. We have been operating at the same location since 1970 and have been in business in Minneapolis since 1913. Our central easily accessible metal scrap yard is located on a rail siding and is in an industrial area. It is designed for easy access by customers and incorporates both an outside handling and storage area and an indoor plant for grading, sorting and preparing scrap metal for sale to our wholesale buyers. Our scrap metal yard is not a junkyard like some dealers’ facilities. Our receiving entrance off Snelling Ave can accommodate vehicles of any size and is swept clean daily for safety, cleanliness, and to prevent any issues with vehicles. You’ll never have to worry about a flat tire. A drive-on precision electronic scale is located immediately in front of our offices. When customers arrive, they are met by one of our courteous, knowledgeable staff members who will assist them with their needs. Safety is a primary concern at our scrap yard. Metal handling equipment and steel and cast iron storage are at the back of our property, away from our receiving area. Convenient visitor parking is also available.Depending on your needs and the nature of your load, we will weigh and identify your materials. Using a handheld X-ray Fluourescence (XRF) spectrographic analyzer, we can determine the exact composition of any metals. Unlike some dealers who may just grade your materials by eye and quote you a price based on guesswork, we determine the exact nature of your scrap so we can provide an accurate price quote based on the latest market value. We know that most sellers don’t know exactly what they’re bringing us. We provide an analysis to make sure they get full price. We separate different metal types and weigh each accurately to assure that our customers are paid fairly.Very few metals are used industrially in their pure form. Almost all metals in finished products are alloys which are mixtures of different metals to meet specific characteristics. For example, pure gold is not used for any finished products. Gold is mixed with other metals to make it more durable, alter its color, or to make it more affordable. The same is true for most other metals. When you bring us scrap metal, we use a state-of-the-art handheld X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) analyzer to show us the precise composition of your scrap. We base our price quote to you on the actual alloy composition and use that composition to sort metals for resale.
