Pricing for scrapped steel material is determined by type of material, travel distance to and from drop site and the market conditions. 

 A magnet is your best friend when recycling. A magnet can determine what type of metal you have. 

The difference between ferrous and non-ferrous metal is determined by whether or not the magnet sticks to your metal. ​​If the magnet sticks to your metal: You have a ferrous metal in your hands, something common like steel or iron. If the magnet does not stick to your metal: The metal you have is a non-ferrous metal. Many common metals, like copper, aluminum, brass, stainless steel and bronze are categorized as non-ferrous metals. These metals are very valuable to recycle.
