Since 1983, Ultramet has actively participated in research and development funded through agencies such as the Department of Defense, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Department of Energy, and the National Science Foundation. From work that began under government support, Ultramet has developed licensed technology and products that have led to millions of dollars in commercial investment and ongoing direct sales. Ultramet’s research and development staff covers the fields of materials engineering, chemistry, metallurgy, materials science, chemical engineering, ceramic engineering, and mechanical engineering. This multidisciplinary team is supported by complete fabrication and machining, characterization, analysis, and inspection facilities.

It is Ultramet’s policy to work with suppliers that are free of conflict minerals from the DRC or are effectively working toward said goal.
Ultramet occupies more than two acres of commercial property in the San Fernando Valley of northwestern Los Angeles that encompasses 5,400 square feet of office space and 77,000 square feet of industrial plant and laboratory space.

Refractory metals include rhenium, tantalum, iridium, platinum, tungsten, boron, niobium, silicon, molybdenum & metal alloys. Non-oxide ceramics include tantalum carbide, tantalum nitride, silicon nitride, niobium carbide, niobium nitride, tungsten carbide, niobium diboride, tungsten diboride, titanium carbide, hafnium carbide, titanium nitride, hafnium nitride, titanium diboride, hafnium diboride, vanadium carbide, zirconium carbide, vanadium nitride, zirconium nitride, boron carbide, zirconium diboride, boron nitride & silicon carbide. Oxide ceramics such as alumina, hafnia, titania, yttria, silica, zirconia & tantala are also available. Markets served include Government, aerospace, defense, biomedical & energy.
